I have a two/three-year-old white German Shepherd female. She's spayed, current on shots and has no health conditions that we know of. Recently, she started smelling extremely bad, usually after laying down for awhile, and this isn't usual dog order. She will be laying seven feet away from me and I will be overwhelmed with a horrible almost stale/moldy feet smell. (I kind of reminds me of rotten fritos chips.) We gave her a thorough bathing but the smell has been coming back. The thing is, it isn't always there, like it only seems to come after she's been lying down for awhile. I'm fairly sure it isn't gas, it smells nothing like that, and she has been on the same diet for over a year but I haven't been able to figure out what's making her smell so bad. Any ideas on whats causing this or tips on how to eliminate this horrible odor?

She's not an outdoor dog at all, and so far, I haven't found anything dead or smelly in my backyard. I hadn't thought of an ear infection, but I will definately look into that. Thank you so much :)

check her breath...her teeth might be bad or it may be stomach problems
lastly... find the pile of rotting fish she has been rolling in,
a vet check might be the best

Make sure that BEFORE the bath, the dog is very well-brushed/combed. Old, dead hair can smell and shedding can cause a lot of "hair loss". It is important for air to be able to get to the skin by removing loose undercoat. But, scratching is a sign of other things, too: yeast infection, mange or other skin conditions. With a yeast infection, the dog will smell and will often have red areas from the scratching, especially on the belly area. The dog will sometimes also chew on the paws. Some things to do for a yeast infection: Use Malaseb shampoo which is meant for this (from the vet); change to a food that has low grain content; use an anti-itch spray such as Pet Solutions makes; use oil supplements such as Dermacaps. You also might try adding glucosamine to the dogs regime. Do be sure that all the dead hair is removed before the bath. You also might try a different shampoo, such as an odor-relieving shampoo.

Is this an outdoor dog? If so, she could have found something that she likes to role in. My dog loves to go ditch jumping and comes home smelling like something died. No matter how many times we bathe him, within 2 or 3 days he smell again. If she's not an outdoor dog then its possible that she may have a medical condition that you are unaware of.

If a person or animal has a bad smelly smell, it's most often an infection of some kind. Just like humans with fungal infections can have super smelly feet, dogs can also get infections that totally smell bad. Please take her to a vet!!!
Is she experiencing puberty and has vaginal secretions? Is she sick and laying down a lot because she's sick? Please go to vet.

Ear infections are a common cause of this complaint. Most folks don't realize that ear mites in a dogs ears left unattended to will create a yeast infection in the ear. Take your dog to the vet ear mites are painful for them and like your realizing it really creates a bad smell.

Have you checked the dogs ears? Sometimes they get yeast infections inside their ears and it's really funky smelling. If you can't figure it out, have her checked by a vet. Sometimes dogs can give off odors from having allergies too.

I know this sound funky, but the feet smell like Freetos. So when you mentioned rotting Freetos, that's what I thought of. Look in between her pads, just in case. The skin might be inflamed.

Possible a skin reaction that you wouldnt necessarily be able to see. I had a cat that smelled like that-we had recently rescued him. Ended up her was allergic to fleas and had a horrible skin reaction we could not see.
