Our dog has just come out of a seizure and is now walking aimlessly around the house, getting stucking in corners and walking into walls. She has been in pretty poor shape for awhile and we're pretty sure this is the end of the road. However we aren't sure what to do with her until then. I think just locking her in her cage until the time comes is the best thing to do because she won't be as confused and walking into things. My mom however thinks thats cruel and would rather have her wandering and possibly urinating everywhere.

Thoughts?

locking her in a cage would be cruel I know this may sound rude but it not I would take her to the vet and have her put down she is probably in a lot of pain and all and I believe this would be the best for her. why let her suffer think of whats best for her if you were her would you want to live that way think about it.

Is this her first seizure? How old is she? Epilepsy in dogs is just as common as it is in humans and can be treated just as easily. Take her to the vet and have her checked. It's quite possible that the dog does not have to die.

As for locking the dog in a cage, that is cruel. You don't know how long it will be. If the vet has determined that the dog IS dying, then help her have a peaceful time or put her to sleep gently. Putting her in a cage with no release is just cruel.

Are the vets open where you are?
If so go there and they can giove your doggy some valium or Domitor and help her sleep it off.
Sounds like she has a tumour causing these seizures and then they get very disorientated afterwards. Our schnauzer at my vet surgery had these and we use to just pop her in a cage with heaps of valium on beard and she would sleep and then when she woke up she was fine. However her seizures got more frequent until she was having every day and she fell down the stairs so we euthanised her.

I'm so sorry to hear about your Dog, I had to put my dog to sleep last yr, as she was 14 yrs old, and dying from Kidney desiese...You could litraly smell the death on her.
But, have you talked to your Vet about her seizures?
Is there something that the Vet could give her? Shots maybe?
(Which by the way will be Expensive) if money is no object then this might be the way to go.
If she an Old dog and she's suffering then I'd say put her to sleep.
I'd say, when no-ones home, keep her in her kennel, when your home, let her out, just keep an eye on her.
Also for getting out Urine stains and smells and other Pet odors, go to Walmart, in the Pet dept. and look for a bottle of OUT, it has a pic of a dog and cat holding their noses.
This stuff WORKS!!!!! It works FAST and IMMEDIATLEY!
Good Luck.

I'm so sad for you, it's an awful moment, when you realise that your pet has reached the end of their life. This poor dog is having bleeds into it's brain, like, little strokes, it's probably blind as well, and very confused. Dont lock it up, and wait for what?? Give it a huge hug, say goodbye, and go to your vet and do the only thing you can do, if you really love your dog. I had to let my 15 year old labrador go, last month, but I know I did what was best for HER.

Get a vets diagnosis, if there is no hope that she can have any quality to her life, then its time for her to go sleep. It was the hardest thing I ever had to do, but when my dog started pooping on himself and could barely walk, i knew it was time. He also had a few seizures....they were scary, but maybe your dog's seizures can be treated. I'm so glad I held my dog in my arms and comforted him as he went to sleep (with the help of that pink injection). I was there for him like he was for me for so many years. And, it was comforting to see him at rest. Good luck.

Is this the dog's first seizure or has she been sick from something else? I know we had one dog that had lymphona and while she did get cancer treatments, when the cancer hit hard and she seized a lot, we finally made the decision to euthanize her. It is a hard decision...if you know you dog well, which I'm sure you do...you need to make the call on when to speak to your vet. I would never shut a dog in a cage if he/she were sick. You need to contact your vet ASAP. Hope this helps...remember even if a dog doesn't wimper, they could still be in pain.

Let her go. You are able to make that choice for a pet - sadly not for a human. You wouldnt lock your Mom in a cage if she got dementia...or your brother or sister or friend. The dog has been your friend. Do what friends do - help the dog reach peace. Good luck it is hard, but you have to be responsible for the companion who has loved you.

It doesn't sound like actively dying. (labored breathing, loss of consciousness, getting cold to touch)

However, I like your solution (crate her) better than the other. At least she will be in a small space, safe and hopefully more secure. Take her outside every few hours.

It is very distressing to have a beloved pet not acting like the wonderful creature you know!
You guys know her best. If you believe she is confused, depressed, and seizures are more frequent, and it's very upsetting for you to see her helpless, walking into walls, then it's time.

omg take her to the vet and have her put to sleep... allowing a dog to suffer when you can stop it is just inhumane plus seizures do not always kill dogs they have medications for this and if she isn't on any maybe instead of ending her life you could save it either way if there is no other choice do the right thing end the suffering
