BE a true friend yourself, and perhaps one of the many people you meet will be a true friend to you as well.

Sad to say that is the most difficult thing to do. I also found myself betray by "friends" I had known for more than 10 years. People change when they start working and after they get married. People can betray when it comes to money issues and self interest.
To find a good friend, first you need to know what is a good friend. List out the qualities you want in a true friend.
Next you must know where to find your true friend. For example, you don't look for a pet dog in a hardware store. In the same way, you can't find a true friend in a disco or pub. I believe one quality of a true friend is kindness. Join a volunteer club to find kind hearted people. You need to observe them from a third party view to see if they had the qualities you wanted. This way will not get yourself hurt again.
Once you have spotted a person who fit your description of a true friend. Now is the last step. Pay. In this world, we are suppose to pay first before we can enjoy. You plant your tree first before you can eat. You work first before you get food to your table. So, do something for your new friend. Offer help in any possible way. In order for him/her to be your true friend, you need to be his/her true friend.

First off, first answerer, Yahoo automatically puts stuff into a category based on something in your post. She said gain and therefore...duh. Anyway Questioner, I found the way to gain true friends is make a friend and always be there for them, if you are they will usually always be there for you.

true friends these days are as harder to find than burried treasure. this is how you can tell if you have a true friend , people think they have bff 's because they always go out drinkin with them , they always go to clubs with them , and have a good time with them. thats not a bff , anyone will be good to you and act like they have your back if all you do is party and have a good time. next time you met a new friend call him/her the next day and be all hey uh , my car just broke down you mind picking me up? or hey can you help me on this homework i have tonite? if they say no i cant right now that means , they arent as loyal as you thought. a true friend is with you through the good times and the bad times. not just when your both drunk at a party having a good time.

True friendship is determined after getting to be friends with people. It has to be determine by time and getting to know the person well.
