It just wouldn't turn on today. I charged the battery thinking it was just empty. The light on the charger went to green after a number of hours, but I put the battery back in and it still won't turn on at all. Canon support says it's $107 to get support which doesn't seem worth it since I can get a better new camera for $300. Any ideas?

The SD400 is less than 2 years old...so it should still be working just fine.
My guess is.....
due to it's very small battery, you have had to recharge it many, many times. The battery could be at the end of it's natural life, so you may need to buy a new one.

If you have a large investment in SD memory cards, consider a new camera that uses the same card. You can search here: http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/compare.asp, there are many to choose from.

You might also consider the new Fujifilm Finepix F31fd, sure to be a great successor to the F30. http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/fujifilmf31fd/

By the way, imho it's actually detrimental to go over 6 or 7mp in a compact digital camera due to the sensor size.
