Maybe not all, but most have probably had some basic medical emergency training.

There's not a whole lot to delivering babies other than to keep it clean, and be ready to catch. There is some emergency stuff, of course, like watching for an umbilical cord wrapped around a neck, but you get that in basic first aid.

Basic first aid courses are given to the Police, and advanced courses are available. Usually when this type of call comes in, the Paramedics do an excellent job of responding immediately. I myself have assisted in child birth, but that was only once in 30 years, and fortunately, there were no complications.

I was taught child birth while attending the police academy almost five years ago. The child actually needs to be held back very slightly to prevent an explosive birth.

I was also taught CPR for infants, children and adults; and first responder training. Our medical training is equivalent to an EMT with a fairly well stocked medical kit in the cruiser's trunk.

Yes all emergency officers, police included are trained in first aid and childbirth. Just the basics so that they know how to assist.

The mother does all of the work. As long as the cop doesn't drop the baby, then he's done a good job.

If there are any complications in the birth, then I wouldn't count on a cop to know what to do.

You better believe it. They know how to give you CPR too! It's all part of their basic first aid and emergency training.
