This is Jesus’ last message, his last words, the last important instruction for us. This is what we are supposed to do: love one another. Notice that Jesus doesn’t say, “It sure would be nice if you loved one another.” He doesn’t say, “Perhaps you might think of loving one another.” He doesn’t say, “At least, love the people who are nice to you.” He says, “This is a new commandment I give you: Love one another.” That’s that. Instead of the ten commandments, instead of “Thou shalt not,” he says, “Thou shalt love one another.” This is the job description for the rest of our lives. This is the work before us.

So why can't people do what Jesus has told us to do?

I wish I had the answer. If we all loved one another, the world would be a perfect place. Jesus was the ultimate gift of love!

Because the world is full of jerks and murderers who find joy in destroying the lives of others. Simply sit down for awhile and for an example read many of the comments on R&S. Many have no other reason that to act like neanderthal against another and the world in general is full of these jerks who get their jolly's by hurting others if even by word. Jesus as loving and compassionate a person as he was LOOK hard at what it got him, and he did NOTHING to deserve it. He was the example which should have shown mankind it's ignorant behaviors, but did it? It is why Jesus also said for us to stay to ourselves and pray in secret because he knew the ways of the world and it is not about to CHANGE........

We are mere humans, we don't have the strengths that Jesus has. Believe me, I try whole-heartedly to be a good person, to love my neighbors including the enemies, to be unselfish, to live by the word of God...I really try and sometimes, I do succeed but other times I just don't try hard enough I guess. I just hope that God knows that I am a good person and I care deeply for others including strangers and I wish no harm upon anyone and I do hope I am forgiven for not having the strength I probably should have.

I often hear people speak of Love and ponder if they know what love is actually. I am sure you are well meaning and you post is very well written. Let me pose a example so you can perhaps gain a deeper compassion and understanding for your fellow man and woman. Once i had a great life made loads of money and had a lovely wife and a wonderful son. I was truely blessed in all ways. Had a great name and my own bussiness. My marriage was blesses my busssiness and all my relationships. I went to chruch twice weekly and to mission trips. Was well thought of in all circles of life.
In one day that all changed. Being ran over by a semi that ran a stop sign that day my body was crushed on the right side. Damage to my ear, my eye, my leg, my arm and back. That day my bussiness was destroyed. That day i lost thousands in contracts. That day my best friend killed himself.
Over the next 8 months. My wife left me. Kidnapped our son using the court system as her weapon of choice and lieing to every one in the area we lived in. This futher destoryed my name and my company. She even went to the point of calling the people i worked for which of course turned them off as to use my services. So that year 2 week before christmas i was forced out of my home with 235 dollars and in poor health. I was not even able to really get around well. So i found mercy in a brother in law who loaned me a damaged house to live in that winter. But that only lasted for a few months. Then the note came GET out or we will take all your stuff to the salvation army. Signed your sister. I could not even lift my self up hardly. Well i move the stuff out. Then my wife persucated me in court for 4 years. Lieing to people all over the county to get even the church people to come to chruch to lie for her. After passing every psy. test then the fabricated psy. test. After that she kidnapped my son helped a man robe me and did all this while ruining my name and livelhood.
How was I perscuated in court you might ask. Persucation is when you are charged with teaching your child the bible. Being persucated is when you are not fit to be a parent because you are a christian. Being perscuated is when your wife has consealed her involvment in church while. While you are being deneyed visation and the rights of a parent for the same involvment.
God annointed me in the mist of all that and the Judge died. Never touch the annointed of God. I loved these people who were so demon filed they would do anything to stop God from being around them. Today i can bless or curse just like anyone with a mouth. My love is not as great as it once was but my compassion is greater. Hope you have learned about love.

sure, once you completely positioned the affection for somebody else first, you are able to forsake even your mom and dad, sister, brother, and likely even your guy or woman self. I only wish such love is ,the affection of God with the aid of Jesus, once you grow to be that dedicated, The Holy Ghost comes into your existence, a contemporary,a comforter from the father,"blessed be He", by using Jesus, and all love and delight returns to you, some 10 fold, some one hundred, etc, some describe it as being born back. :) so which you will answer your question,i might say,sure...temporally in Jesus, besides the undeniable fact that it is going to return.

The Spirit is willing but the flesh is sometimes weak. It sounds like a simple command until you actually try to do it. I honestly try to love all including my enemies but sadly I fail. Thankfully I have His grace to cover my faults.

Thats how it is written in John - I have always found this more powerful than '....as you love yourself'. I dont always love myself. The message '....as I have loved you' Awes me. I think of the low places I have gotton myself into - and that Grace that has found me regardless. Makes me humble. It means nobody is unloveable.

Because people (Christians and non-Christians alike) do not truly believe they are loved (in a personal sense and not theological sense) by God. Very few people do, and these few probably understand something I don't.

not everone follows his teachings b/c not everyone believes that his teachings are worth following..(ie...Christianity is not the only religion out there). Kinda hard to follow the mantra "love one another" when the dogma behind you is "kill all the non-believers" etc...

doubt-fear-weakness. Putting worldly things before God. It takes a lot of strength and encouragement to love.
