That guy in O Brother Where Art Thou said he swore his soul to the devil. Is that even actually possible to control where your eternal spirit goes?

An eternal spirit is constant and infinite. No space left open without it. So the spirit goes nowhere. It is just being it is. A soul, on the other hand, feeds on the spiritual energy to be alive with the assistance provided by a physical body. Our souls have a final destination, a final resting place. It can not be stopped or controlled by the soul itself. So to swear a soul to the devil is only as good as the soul is alive. It is only alive with a vehicle(physical body) in good running condition. otherwise, your spirit is free once more( liberation from flesh).

Death is inevitable. The thief on the cross knew when his would occur, but we can not predict our own. After his death, the crucified criminal went to live in paradise with Jesus. Some of us will also live eternally in God's presence. But others will experience everlasting torment, forever separated from Him.
If we receive Jesus as our Savior, our penalty for sin is paid. We are adopted into God's family, and Heaven is our eternal home. If we reject Jesus, we remain alienated from the Lord and under condemnation for our sin. We are destined to experience eternal judgment. God won't accept any of man's excuses because there is no acceptable defense for unbelief. (Acts 4:12)

Jesus is the truth the light and the way. Nobody comes to the father except threw the son. Also , Jesus holds the keys to death and hades and then some. He has authority over the spiritual realm. If you want life find Jesus. And remember the soul never dies which is you.

Swearing your soul to the devil is possible. It means that you entered a pact with him. Many people today have a pact with he devil. They choose to be blasphemous and rebellious. These are a few of the devils characteristics and anyone who mirrors the devil's character is of the devil..

Biblicaly you can't sell your soul because it is owned by God.
But you can choose everlasting life or the death of your soul. We are put on this earth to make that decision, that is why we are here. That is the meaning of life.
