Why do you even want to do this in the first place? When you're riding, you should be concentrating on the road and not be distracted. If the stereo is too loud, you won't be able to hear traffic coming up behind you. Most states have a law against wearing headphones while riding. A single earphone may also be against the law, check your local traffic regulations.

Even if you could rig up something, it would be too heavy to drag around. A car battery alone must weigh 15 or 20 pounds anyway, then if you add a stereo and pull it all with a trailer, you'll be dragging upwards of 40 or 50 pounds behind you.

I'm not sure what you're trying to do. Radios and Ipod these days are the size of a credit card. Are you trying to build something that is going to shake the neighbors windows loose. If so, it may be hard to keep the thing powered. Cars recharge their batteries as they run with an alternator. I don't think a bike has the wattage to do the same. You're talking about some serious weight here.

Well how loud do you want it? There are some pretty loud boomboxes out there. Of course you have to worry about shock absorption, a bike usually rides rougher than a car.

I've seen a guy with a kid trailer that had some serious gear in it, when I first heard it I thought it was kids with a jacked-up car.

Have you considered an ipod? Some people don't share your taste in music and don't appreciate your gift of sharing it with the neighborhood. Just an idea.

One idea is to use a pyramid radio unit instead a big massive stereo unit. It's street legal and clamps right to your handlebars. The sound maybe not so great but think about how many friends you make while riding.
