My cat keeps spilling his water. I have tried a couple different bowls - with large bottoms, heavy, rubber rim on the bottom, etc. and he somehow keeps spilling it without knocking it completely over.
I never catch him doing this, so I can't spray him with water or yell or anything.

Any suggestions?

Get one of the water fountains for cats. The cat will play with the spray rather than try to knock over the bowl.

They're a little bit pricy, but should work for you.

It's a game for him! My kittie does it all the time. We got an auto waterer, not fountain. Its too large and heavy for her to knock over and costs WAAAY less than the fountains (anywhere from $5 to $10 depending on size). Only problem we have now is when it gets close to empty, she knocks the top off of it and pushes it around to let us know she needs water! LOL

Preventing a mess for cats who like to splash
Regina in Platteville, WI suggests giving water to cats in teacups with saucers underneath. When a cat wants to splash its water, the water goes on the saucer and not on the floor! Mary in Platteville, WI puts her cat’s water container in the bathtub so the cat can’t spill water where it will make a mess! Meanwhile, Geri in Augusta, GA suggests giving cats water in a tall regular drinking glass because cats stick their heads in rather than their paws

This kind of thing worked for me. You can find them at any local pet store for a good price.

maybe he doesntlike drinking water ? try to gave him some milk instead . maybe he wouldnt spill it . you can put the bowl away like on the table so that he cant turn if over and make it messing on the floor. you shouldnt yell at the cat wont work he will still going do it again. maybe you can stick a tape on the bowl onto the floor so that wouldnt move around.

first off, do you have any family members or people you live with that may be responsible for this? stupidly we have our cats food right around a turn in our house, so people will knock it over accidently. but like Vegan said, the water fountains work wonders that satisfy the kitties curiosity.....

I use one of those large plastic ice-cream containers. When it is full they cant do a thing with them except drink from them. They are just too heavy.

give him/her just enough to lick a couple times usually when they do that either it is too much or whatever. my cat use to do that with hsi food until i just started just puttin his food on the floor. with the water i put like a couple tablespoons ata a time and then he accepted it better and i gradually added more until he stopped
