I think so, and I think it's important, complacency and idleness are dangerous.

It would be interesting if Christians weren't so stupid.

Not only is it interesting it is a matter of where will you live your life in eternity.
Without theological debates, we will have to rely on our own individual understanding and conviction.
Sinners we are, with a sinful and decietful heart, we should not trust ourselves to be able to serve God with such decietfulness present.
We need each other to debate and understand His Written Word.
That is a very god reason for joining up with your local Church (The Body of Christ)

Soli Deo Gloria

definitely. it's great to debate theology and we should do it more often.

unfortunately, two things:

1 - it's hard (very hard) to conduct a polite and respectful debate on matters theological without it degenerating into hurtful name-calling and self-righteous defensiveness on both sides (especially on the internet)

and 2 - Y!A is a great place for lots of things, but not for *debate*- you can't get the back-and-forth exchange of opinion in the question and answer format.

I don't know that I think it's interesting. I always look for those questions that challenge my view of the world, and force me to better define and therefore better understand what I believe. They are rare, but there are some very sharp people in the R&S section.

More like addictive fun I suppose. Just look at all the same people attacking the new questions. We all know we are not going to convince anyone of anything but we still try. Seems more like comedy. Entertainment. Neither can prove anything but yet everyone knows everything.

I love it. It is fun. But one must remember in the end that it is all a hobby and not to be take too seriously. By that I mean that all of the theology in the world is just theory about God and is nothing but a grain of sand on the beach in comparison to who and what God actually is. We must not become too attached to our theology and forget the goal behind it all. Which is union with God. And we must not become so attached to our theology that it becomes God to us.

Just so long as it is genuine debating..and not the kind where one person forces his/her opinion on others and hounds and belittles them. Each being able to put forward an opinion, backing it up and coming to a conclusion is great.

Intellectual debate as opposed to brow beating by bible "experts'' is always interesting. Unfortunately those self proclaimed "experts" don't even care if they are being obnoxious.

It is good to see different points of view. It is bad when we give smug answers. I think we can explain our side of an issue with courtesy.

It would be more interesting if athiests had something intriguing and thought-provoking to say besides "Christians are stupid," then backing it up with "because believing in God/Jesus/heaven/hell/etc. is stupid."
