Dear H20 - I see the constitution as a living document. The intent seems to vere away from the so-called conservative platform today.

Dear John 1 - Do you mean like the abrupt change of removing slavery, or the abrupt change of women's sufferage. Those were always there, we simply didn't see them there. Equal rights for Homosexuals is in there, can you see them there?

Conservatives believe that tradition and often religion should be the standard by which we live. They are most often intolerant, bigoted, Republican, and Christian. Not all. Some just derive a great deal of pleasure from trying to stop the furthering of intelligence on this earth. I believe they feel threatened by change, especially the fundamentalists and the rich. Why, if things moved forward, how would they make money? How would the religious extremists make excuses for their ignorance and prejudices? Everything they hate has to be because God hates it and any evidence to the contrary is threatening to them. Of course, they all 'interpret' God in their own way. Usually, God agrees with them when they become adamant about being right, is literal when they want him/her/it to be, is metaphorical when it suits their agendas, and never actually bothered to read the original texts in the first place. Those who choose to hearken back to the old times to stop the advancement of society frighten and amaze me. If people only knew what those "old times" were really like, they'd stop that nonsense REAL quick.
Of course, I don't believe this of all Christians. You, for example, are an exemplary Christian and you follow the actual teachings of Christ himself. I'm sorry I've gotten a bit off-topic and added a religious nuance to your question but I think the terms "conservative" and "intolerant" often go hand in hand.

A true conservative is one who observes the governmental philosophy of the founders and the forgotten document called the "Constitution." The philosophy of self, limited government – a constitutional republic – goes hand in hand with morality, based on God's guidelines. That is what a conservative is, at its root.
Second question: See above
I would agree to some point..were definitely no longer a country of limited government
No dog it's not but it should be

Someone who believes that the tried-and-true ways are superior to any new ideas. They are essentially preserving the lives they grew up with, and fail to see that any problems that were caused by the old ways were worth fixing. Hence, conservatives have opposed minimum wages, improved racial & gender equality, immigration reform, pluralism, etc.

That is a good question. I would think conserving the environment would be a conservative issue, but it isn't.
