Absolutely not!

Why not "in humanity we trust" or "in liberty we trust"?

I don't agree with cdh1979. God is a specific concept. A specifically RELIGIOUS concept. That's a "no-no" when it comes to separation of church and state.

I think its a good idea to remember that both Franklin and Jefferson were both celebrated naturalists (which is what they called scientists in those days) as well political figures - which might explain a lot about that phrase.
I'm okay trusting a God I'm not certain about (thats like a brick trying to understand the architect)
What gets me are fanatics who are certain about God - yet can never agree amonngst themselves. - Those folks I dont trust at all.

I think people tend to forget one very basic idea. This country was founded on the principles of freedom. Speech and religion (or just generic beliefs in general) without fear of any kind of negative persecution. Now I'm not religious but I'm not an athiest either. When I say "in god we trust" or "one nation under god" I am not making a statement that I believe in god. To me it's all symbolism. When people say "god" in that context in their own minds they are referring to whatever or whoever they think "god" is. Hard to explain but I think to me it's just a moral center of right and wrong and making the right choices in life. But at the same time when you use it in those contexts that it's more recognizing what the people have fought and died for over the years, to preserve those basic freedoms of speech and religion and everything else. In those four little words "in god we trust" it is encapsulated what this great country is all about.

No because we can trust God completely. We can't trust science.

Do you mean like trust in Paleontology?
Do you mean like trust in the biological and interstitual scientific "uncertainty principle"?
Do you mean like the early conclusions reached by carbon dating?
Ah, maybe you mean "Science" itself, which is defined as a search for the truth.

What about (every) religion in its beginning, before it was corrupted by Church Empires, what about the simple concepts that motivated their origins? Were not all of them a "search for the truth". Do you think Sadartha or Ghandi, or Jesus, or Confucious were searching for a lie?

Harmony is harmony; disharmony is the only sin against God*.

*However you define God, or your neighbor, or yourself.

I'm not an American so it doesn't apply to me if you mean the phrase on American money, however, if you want a phrase that might be more acceptable to more people, why not something like, "Trust in truth."

Its "in God we trust" by the way. I don't think i'd want to be around to see that happen.

"In God AND science we trust" would be more like it.

if you believe that science can do for you what God can do for you... then go ahead and vote for it, but I won't. The USA is not founded on science, It's founded on God. Read some history books. Read a George Washington Biography. God is the only way our nation stands a chance.
