Most government grants have strict conditions attached to them such as an income limit for an individual or a nonprofit entity such as a educational institution, local & state governments, and Native American tribes. Also, there is help for those who have been in a natural disaster. For everyone else, the government does not make it very easy to get an individual grant because the government is not really in the business to give grants to individuals except for FAFSA form for college which goes directly to the college or university. However, I will give you some informational government links on it.

Everything you need in one place: www.grants.gov.
The funding is categorized and there are specific instructions on what they require for each application. Grant writing is not all that complicated, just a little time consuming. You have to write it out and include any other attachments, EXACTLY as they spell it out. That's it. From my searching, there's not much for the individual homeowner here, though. These are geared toward non-profit groups.
There are also possiblities locally, if you live in a city with either a municipal fund for restoration or beautification, or if there's a United Way which might also have some funds for that purpose. That info will also be available online as well as the requirements. My city has a program which provides grant money to improve an entire neighborhood, so that might be a better option.
Those Lasko commercials are tempting, but after looking for myself, I've found that grant money - at least from the federal level - is not all that easy to get. Still, it's worth looking into.
Good luck!
