Daoism is very deep. However, it is based on a metaphysics that is alien to western culture. Thererfore, it is extremely difficult for westerners to understand and appreciate. For example, for all of the beauty of the Dao de Jing, the book is several thousand years old. When you study science, do you rely on extremely abstract ancient texts, or do you take advantage of the tremendous advances that have occurred in mankind's understandings over the intervening millennia?

i comprehend a superb form of Buddhists who're additionally Taoists. Taoism works properly with Buddhism and Confucianism, besides as Shinto. So does Buddhism. It is going with out asserting that Siddhartha Gautama took very much of his message from the Tao in simple terms with a standard cursory comparative diagnosis.

I used to be a Taoist. It does present a fair amount of wisdom. If you read the Tao Te Ching and replace "the Tao" with "God" much of it is true. Understanding of this philosophy helped me to understand much of the revealed truth in the Gospels when I came to read the Word later. Now I am a Christian who incorporates much Taoist philosophy where it does not disagree, a Zen Christian, if you will.

Taoism was catching a wind in the late 80's but has again started to cool. I have heard it is great for the mind, body and soul.....................for a while. Fellow Christians had checked it out. They came running back to Christianity when prayers were never answered nor any sign of speaking to them through any way besides the books. Peace out.................
