Sorry if it sounds weird, but it’s a serious question

I sometimes notice that the women who wear clothing that shows their stomach get upset when guys look (not stare) at their belly button and stomach. Why do the women dress like that if they don't feel comfortable when men look at their belly button? Also, why do a lot of ladies get their belly buttons pierced? And why do they do it if they don't want men to look at it? And would it be OK if a man made a complement to a woman that her belly button or her belly button ring looks nice? (I never made a complement like this, but just asking)

I know this is a very weird question, sorry if it sounds awkward; I really don’t mean anything bad, just curious.
Thanks

In case you're wondering; I'm NOT a weirdo. I am a normal college student who is considered attractive by a lot of girls. I got this question based on observation of the people I see every day. & just b/c I wrote something in my question doesn't mean that I'm doing it in real life.

I think there's a difference between wanting to look sexy and wanting to be blatantly stared at. I mean, if a girl just stared at you, wouldn't that make you feel uncomfortable? And how about if perhaps you were in the pool and she was staring at your chest? Or your crotch! It's a similar thing, girls who dress like that want to be appreciated, that's all.

I think the problem is, a lot of girls (young girls) dress provocatively because that is what is considered "stylish" right now. Most of them are just trying to keep up with the trends and look as cute (or cuter) than their girlfriends. They aren't really wearing clothes like that to display their bodies to men (although that is precisely what they are doing!) and so they are caught off guard when a man makes a comment or compliments them.

As far as the belly button piercings go...I pierced my belly button when I was in college, but I never wore a shirt that was short enough to display it to anyone but me! It was more of a personal thing for me, something that made me feel good. The only time I EVER displayed my BB ring was in the pool or at the beach :)

Girls dress that way because they want attention. Now because they think they are all ladies and deserve such treatment (even thought they don't dress that way), they get caught off guard when a guy stares or makes a comment. Wrong and misleading, yes it is. However, it is a chance to show what kind of man you are. While how a girl dresses may invite said behavior, that doesn't mean that its ok to act that way. Be a man and don't stare. Better yet, why not find a girl who does dress like a lady. There's a difference between dressing attractively and dressing to attract.

I think it's silly to dress in a sexy way, or show the stomach, and get upset if somebody is looking or even staring at your belly button. I show my stomach all the time, I know the consecuences, and I have to admit that I like when I see somebody even staring at my stomach and belly button, after all if I decide to show my belly, is because I like the attention.

Long answer short-it's an animal thing. Basically they want to show off their body in hopes to find a mate. But when a man gives a compliment, they are thrown off and fight back -or- don't really want to get any but make it look like they do (or something like that). But, I agree, why do woman dress like that if they have such a problem with their self image? As for the belly button ring-it's just a sexy rock star thing. They want to be like Britney!! ;p

I don't know either. I think if people do not want someone looking at their bellies, breasts, butts, then they should not expose them. They should especially not accentuate them. Lets consider the following scenario. You are walking in the mall and everyone is wearing a shirt and jeans. Then some one comes in wearing short shorts and a bra. Furthermore, the word Delicious is written on said person's shorts across his/her butt. Now, who will grab your attention? I think if someone stares at you, and you have happened to make yourself look so different from the rest, you should not get mad. That was probably your intention right? To attract attention that is, we all know. However, DO understand that Ogling can be very disturbing (especially for young women). It can make you feel objectified. However, that style of dress, especially ones that accentuate private areas, basically tells the world "Please objectify me, I'm just a piece of meat." Or, it reveals that the person feels so worthless that he/she gains self-esteem by feeling sexually desirable instead of being proud of his/her individual character. On the other hand, said person could just be a clueless, socially inept, fashion crazed teenager, who really can’t foresee the outcome of his/her choices.

Maybe you've had the bad luck that the girls you look at lack self confidence, thus thinking that you might be looking at their stomach and thinking they look fat or something, idk.

Personally, I haven't seen that happening to anybody. Maybe 'cuz I am a girl lol, but my guy friends have never commented anything similar.

Btw, if I wear a short shirt, I don't mind people looking. I understand the consequences of wearing tight clothes. Maybe they should too.

I find it amusing when women get pissed when they are wearing things like that and get stares.

OF COURSE YOU'LL BE STARED AT!

You've got a midriff showing, piercing in your belly button and now you are crying because someone is either admiring it or ogling you because of it.

If you have such a problem with it cover yourself up.

because some girls are really insecure and because of their insecurity they tend to wear those kinds of clothing but then theyre scared that somebody might notice it negatively...and now a days girls are having pierced belly because its the fashion and some girls are coping with whats new in it....it would be nice to have compliments about it and mostly girls like a great attention when it comes to changes....
