If it is then that's complete bullcrap. If I see a friend that has been pulled over I should be able to walk up and ask him or her what's going on. If I can't then America's a police state.

All you do at that point is present another watchpoint or threat the Officer has to be aware of and you will be told to stay back.

If you aren't directly involved, stay out of it.

Sorry you don't like Cops, but we have a job to do. Don't interfere with the job we do by sticking your presence into the middle of it.

Not something you should do. Any pedestrian should stay clear when an Officer is doing his duty. Wisdom to know , that it is none of your business. You can be charged with interference. Friend or no Friend, it is none of your concern, until the Officer has completed his task. After the Officer has left, then you can go to ask your questions. Until then, do not try to interfere . You don't even realize how many Police Officers have been killed, assaulted, by concerned so called Friends and their bullcrap. Society is vicious, and our Wonderful American Police Force, is aware.

It's not illegal in Ohio; but patrolmen view it as highly suspicious.

Think about being pulled over; more than likely you are in traffic; dangerous for you and the Patrolman. He doesn't want the added stimulus of you asking questions. He/She has no idea what the traffic stop will hold; it could be routine or end up with guns drawn or anything in between.

Most Patrolmen are singles in the car; there are hardly doubles unless it is a special duty. This single Patrolman stops your friend and identifies him as no threat. Then you roll up; now it could be two to one. He/She has no idea what you want and your presence could change the situation dynamic.

If you roll up and the Patrolman sees you they will immediately send for backup and I'm not talking about one car, there will be five. The call will go out and any and all officers close by will arrive at the scene.

If you do anything more that get back into your car, you could be changed with obstruction of justice. This is a judgement charge by the officer. These cases are difficult to defend and harder to win.

All law inforcement officers put their lives on the line each and every day. Most go home to their families but go back out to protect you and me for low pay.

I could not imagine saying good bye to my family and going to work knowing I may not come home; all for $35,0000 a year.

I'm too selfish.

It may not be illegal, but it's not smart. The cop could think you're making an aggressive move, and it could be considered obstructing justice.

What if you and 5 friends pulled up in a car, as a cop was giving someone you knew a ticket? What would it look like if all 6 of you got out of the car and approached the stopped vehicle? You'd be lucky NOT to get shot.

If you hinder the job performance of the officer you can be arrested for Ostructing a Police Officer. I have done it before. It happens all the time in the drug laden parts of town. Why can you not stay away for five minutes? If your boss is talking to you I would not come up to the McDonald's counter just to see what was going on.

well, you are interfering in an onging law enforcement effort, which could, at a stretch, be considered obstructing justice, and they do have laws about what is and what isnt allowed during something like this for yours and the cops safety. When i see a cop i run the other way, but i agree with the police state thing ever since maine caved in to the insurance companies and made it mandatory to wear a seatbelt.

If you interfere with the officer, you're committing a crime.

By the way, if the person he stopped decides to pull out a gun and start shooting, you'd be in danger.

As a final note, you will have a long time to ask your friend what happened. While it's happening, you're not being helpful, and the only thing you could possibly do there is get in the way.

It may not be illegal, I don't know, but it is certainly not very smart, both for the safety of the officer and motorist. If you made the wrong move, whether intentionally or not you could get shot because the officer felt threatened. Whatever, it is really bad idea. Wait until you see the friend later to ask why he was stopped.
