Miniature Schnauzer. They are so cute! Especially when they are pups. They are good with other dogs, but in the beginning they seem shy and they'll bark a lot until they get used to each other, which is only like 1-2 days. They are really nice dogs. If you take them on a walk or something, they may bark at other dogs, but they would never bite the other dog.

Nice? You want a dog that's nice. A good mixed breed are Cockapoo's. They have the intelligence of the poodle and the easy nature of a cocker spaniel. They have a coat that takes some care, but they are nice and live 15 years easily

I would suggest a Western Highland White Terrier for a small dog and a Golden Retriever for a big dog

Soft-Coated Wheaten Terriers are VERY nice and cute dogs. The show dog haircuts are unattractive, but if you let their hair grow, they come to look like Benji. They're kind of scruffy looking but have soft hair. They do NOT shed and are excellent w/ children. They love to please their owners and are easy to train. They have lots of energy and need a fenced in backyard to run around. Mine is very acceptable of other dogs and enjoys meeting anything new. They're good watchdogs but NOT aggressive. I couldn't have found a better match for my family. Good luck!

Do you have other dogs? Or would this be the first one?

We had a female dachund and then got a baset hound. The dachund was the mom. Only fought when food was dropped on the floor. As long as food/treats were fair, no issues.

West highland white terriers are wonderful dogs, very sweet natured and loyal, playful and great with other dogs. She has a doggie best friend who shes pretty tight with, my sisters beagle/basset mix Jack. She also loves Dorrie my moms Scottish terrier. I socialized her early and shes well mannered and playful with other dogs, ive never had a fear of her being aggressive with another dog.

Everyone else I know that has a basset, they all love people as well.

Some breeds are better around other dogs in generally---but are aloof with people. I have sighthounds, & they love to be with other sighthounds. Terriers---not so much.
