Every bible i've ever encountered has had pages with extremely thin paper... almost like tissue paper you would wrap a gift in... why is this?

If they used heavier paper it would be six inches thick.

It's called "5 pound bible bond," a specific type of thinner printing paper. It's also used to print books such as the Merck Manual of Diseases, a 2,000 page reference book for physicians, which, if printed on the usual 10-pound paper used for other textbooks, would make it weigh about 25 pounds and be the size of a coffee-table book. It's just a way of making unwieldy tomes a bit easier to read. The bible is hard enough to handle without it weighing 20 pounds, too.

Before I had respect for the things of God I used a plain piece of paper from the back of my Bible to roll a joint, it worked great. This was back in the 70's. Still have the Bible and I use it for better things now..... what it was made for.<><
I love the feel of the paper.<><

It actually is just the opposite. It's not cheap at all. The prior answers were correct, if it were heavy paper it would make the entire bible weigh a ton.

And I love the sound ithose lightweight pages make in church when everyone is turning their pages.

Because I believe most Bibles are given away for free, such as in the hotel rooms and such. No one is going to charge you if you take or steal Bible right? So it's made to save money I believe.

To make it cost evective for everyone. Now anyone can afford a Bible. The type of paper it's printed on does not matter as much as the message of the words.

It's thin paper not cheap paper and it is because your average bible is over 1000 pages in length. Makes it a little thinner and a little lighter...............

Oh! Oh! I know this one! The bible is VERY big! I believe the pages are thin so that we are not weighed down when we carry them.

I like it like that. I think it is not cheaper, it just makes the Bible not so heavy. There are Bibles with thicker paper too. : )

first of all enable me only say that the Holy Spirit can practice that the bible is real with the help of religion. Having faith is for sure better functional because there is room for wish. In answer for your question, it became no longer “devised by using someone especially literate” because the bible is written by using numerous adult males who were inspired by using God—no longer only one guy. all the 4 gospels were written by using 4 diverse adult males who were in diverse places and wrote at diverse circumstances. It won't be able to be a twist of destiny that those 4 adult males recorded a similar suitable debts at diverse circumstances in diverse places and addressed a similar message to diverse human beings. Matthew, Mark & John had a Jewish target market at the same time as Luke had a Gentile target market. The question is who and what inspired them? Who and what inspired Moses to jot down the first 5 books of the old testomony? when we are moved to share what all of us comprehend or discovered, its because we experience inspired to finish that. in the different case why worry? Its particularly a threat that those 4 adult males had better major events than only take a seat and write debts that they witnessed. yet they chosen to jot down about what they said. WHY? Why opt for that? It became idea. Who became their idea? God. What evokes human beings to stroll a breast maximum cancers marathon? perchance a loved one which had maximum cancers. What evokes little ones to attempt out for a making a music contest? perchance a fave movie star. What evokes someone to develop right into a Veterinarian? perchance their love for his or her own canines or cat. What evokes a guy to jot down one gospel? God. “So how can one practice that the Bible is depending on the surely "word of God"? How did you comprehend?” The bible IS the “word of God”—no longer in preserving with it. How do i comprehend? The Holy Spirit confirms it for me.
