it's silly but i'm trying to teach my son manners and my husband, the idiot he is, says if he has to burp he should excuse himself from the table and go into another room and burp. like a 4 year old can accomplish this at every meal.
i say he should quietly burp while covering his mouth.
who's right?
wait.....is this miss manners? haha!
thanks.

In the Western World, burping, like waving, is a way of saying "nice meeting you today". Old men sitting in a bar sometimes think of "those old days" when they used to bury their way through Social Studies class.

Two people who can't speak each others language usually get the message across by burping.

In the eastern world, burping is a rarity which only happens to the those chosen by God. It is a way of "burping the devil out". The more you burp on the dinner table, the more blessed you are. Fart (or flatulence) is considered the opposite of burp. This is how devil is supposed to get hold of you.

I think its silly to leave the table before burping. Sometimes you cannot control a burp, what's your husband going to do then?

You are correct.

Etiquette dictates that you should quietly burp inside. Keep your mouth shut, cover it with a napkin, and don't acknowledge what you just did.

in some places if you dont belch ive heard they will kill you at my buddies the whole family at the table while they eat farts openly but as long as you say excuse me everythings fine if you really want to git away with it dont for git the manners sometimes im offended when people dont teach there kids to cover there mouth they openly cough on you and that is something of concern now if your in the ball room and your child is burbing maybee someone might consider it so serious but if your a kid you have to talk to them like there an adult im not saying swear im saying talk like me to you tell them about it explain to them that way youve told them all about it

Cover his mouth with a napkin or his hand and do it as quietly as possible. Then say excuse me.

He covers his mouth, tries to minimize the amount of "damage" and excuses himself immediately

Your right! :) Tell your son he can burp as long as he says "Excuse me" every time he does.
