I am going to be directing a play to direct at the church I attend, which is Southern Baptist. If the play goes well, I want to perform it around other churches around the area. The play hasseveral good themes, promotes Christianity, and does not favor one denomination, except it is set in a Catholic church. It does not make fun of any denomination and is meant to get people to think. There is a Catholic church in the area and I want to know if a Catholic church would let someone put on an outside play at their parish. What do you think?

Most Catholic Churches wouldn't let you perform in their "sanctuary" but might allow it in their parish hall. (what we could call a fellowship hall) Try inviting a couple people (including a priest or two) from the catholic church to come see it in the other places first. Surround the play with prayer that God will speak through it.

Go talk to the parish priest. Keep in mind that there are some doctrinal differences and he will want to be sure that you portray the Catholic Church properly. If your message is one he thinks has merit he may permit it.

possibly filming it and allowing the priest to watch it and make recommendations as to content might be appropriate. but if changes they want make an impact on the base story line or it conflicts with your beliefs. make a counter suggestion and if you cannot agree then move on. they have the right to not allow you to perform your play in their parish just as you have the right not to water down your message. I am not implying this is what they would do they may very well say it's great come on in.

If the Catholic church,(catholic means universal) will not let your play be produced in their church, call me!

The other churches might, although it's doubtful, as they might think you're trying to talk their members into leaving them (very short-sighted of them if they do). Highly unlikely the Catholic Church will though.

I think that that's a great idea. I think that you should try at the catholic church, but they probably won't let you.

go for it. the worst that can happen is that they say no..

well i guess the worst that could happen is that they get torches and chase you into an old windmill and then burn it down with you in it. but that is very unlikely.

No harm asking.
If you ask politely and respectfully, the answer may just be YES.
But, be ready for a possible no.

You may have to furnish them a script so they can approve it.
