** I would also like to add that, while 'cabello' is more 'proper', you *can* use the word 'pelo' (thats the only way my family and I say it, and in Mexico plus here in my native California the streets are dotted with barbershops advertising 'Cortes de Pelo' while I don't think I have ever seen a sign saying 'Cortes de Cabello'). Also, it has to do with where you are from (Maybe in Spain 'pelo' means hair from another part of your body, but I can tell you that from where I 've been in Mexico, that's not the case), where you grew up (i.e. rurally or in an urban environment), your economic situation (a rich, highly educated person might speak differently than someone who never had the opportunity to finish middle school), etc.**
