I have heard of a bunch of animal gelatins (horses, cows, even pigs). I have never heard of plant-based gelatin. Am I missing a treat there?

There are gelatinous plant materials made from guar bean gum and from agar seaweed. They are popular for a lot of diet foods that need to be thickened without adding eggs and fat. I don't think they are really called gelatin though.

You had best contact the manufacturer. Some are made with animal products, some are made with plant products.
