I just finished a course of antibiotics. I was wondering if it is O.K. to consume alcohol as soon as 24 hours later.

The general answer is yes. Even though some antibiotic is still detectable in your system, it will be at a lower than therapeutic dose, and, since you have finished the full course anyhow, it doesn't matter.

The 'do not take alcohol' warning is either because alcohol effects the absorbtion or action of the antibiotic. Since you have finished the course of treatment, neither of those is a consideration anymore.

The main concern is not really the interaction of antibiotics and alcohol but your immune system action. You take antibiotics to fight infection so you need to make your immune system strong. Alcohol intake lowers your immune system in some ways thus it is much advisable to wait until you are certain that your infection has been settled. You do not want your infection to elapse and have reinfection, don't you? Better to hold yourself a bit until you are sure.
