You must remember that many of them were still Jews so girding one's loins with pork chops was still not kosher.

Gird your loins with Truth
The first step always is to be ready for battle. The Roman soldier wore long robes. The girdle was needed to bind the robe so that they could move freely without tripping over the robe itself. The robe is a foundational item. We need to be careful not to trip on foundation truths - our foundation is Jesus. "I am the way, the truth and the life, no man cometh unto the Father, but by me." (John 14:6) "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is a gift of God: not of works, lest any man should boast." Satan is attacking the very foudation of Christianity today. Many say that you have to do this or that in order to be saved, it is a lie of the devil. We can't do anything in order to be saved except call on the name of the Lord. Be sure first of all that you undersatand this foundational truth. or the enemy will trip you up before you even get your armour on. Remember that Jesus is the truth and He will set you free. (John 8:30-32) We need to know the Word of God. (Psalms 119:11) (2 Timothy 3:16) We want to master the truth (the Word of God) and be mastered by the truth (Jesus). The truth must control my mind, attitudes and actions. I must settle the foundational truths with conviction, no uncertanities, no doubts. The devil is a liar, he will tell you that you're not a Christian; he will make you think that you have to work for salvation, that you have to be good enough.
Your foundation is Jesus, not tradition, ceremonies, self-righteousness, philosophies, reasonings or good works. (John 3:16, Romans 10:9-10)

If you have truth all over your body it may lead to a quiet restful night.
Your head is covered by the helmet of salvation. Watch someone walk, The loins move little thus truth is constant.

'Girding up loins' was an expression to indicate increased activity.
In those days men wore flowing robes.
If some strenuous activity came along, they wrapped up the long, flowing robes around their hips, loins, that area.
It enabled them to work un-encumbered.
Paul was exhorting his christians brothers to be very bust in spreading truth.
The truth being the teachings of Jesus.

gird (up) (one's) loins. To summon up one's inner resources in preparation for action. [Middle English girden, from Old English gyrdan.)
As an interesting aside, gird might also be taken as gird. 1. To jeer or jeer at. --gird n. A sarcastic remark. [Middle English girden, to strike.]
If you want the Truth.....Ask a Pagan.

The truth has been in your loins all this time. You just had to click your ruby slippers three times and say, "There is no place like my loins."

The armor was to protect all areas. The NIV and new living describe it as a belt. Therefore anything guarding your private area would be most important wouldnt you think? And that is exactly where Satan attacks many of us guys.

In other words Paul is talking about putting on the Belt of Truth. Satan fights us with lies, and sometimes his lies sounds like truth; but only believers have God's truth which can defeat Satan's lies.
Let's put it this way. Many pants have belt loops on them, and the only way to keep them on, it to wear a belt with them. In the same way, the only way to protect ourselves from the lies of Satan is to surround ourselves with the Word of God, and immerse ourselves in the scriptures on a day to day basis.

If you read the rest of the verse and its context, it is an analogy to putting on a set of Roman armor.
I seriously doubt Paul meant us to debate why different virtues equate to different bits of that armor! More to the point is that all parts of us (I mean our spiritual selves, not our physical bodies) need to be *protected* from the influence of the world and its values. Given that sexuality is an area where humans are extremely vulnerable to temptation, it seems like that's one area of our lives where we need to be reminded of the truth.

Blessed be!
