As a prosecutor, I can tell you this would be a very, very bad idea.
Let me preface this by stating two commonly accepted facts in law enforcement: First, officers are already (obviously) compensated for their duties. Second, 99% would rather be stopping a suspected drunk driver than continuing on their patrol. Monetary incentives really are not necessary. I know that there is a problem with impaired drivers, but, I have never heard that there is a lack of officers who like to pull people over.
And this goes to my point. A monetary incentive is a good answer to the wrong question. The impaired driving problem isn't driven (no pun intended) by officer apathy. The problem is that too many people still drive after drinking a few too many.
And if you integrate a "bounty" or "reward" system into a duty that an officer is already required to perform, then all you are doing is creating another reason for the public to distrust the police. It accomplishes nothing for law enforcement, fails to benefit the community, AND, at the same time, furthers the chasm between law enforcement and the very community which it is entrusted to protect. And a law enforcement agency, to a large extent, is dependent on that trust.

I say YES. Police Officers have a thankless job......just look at all of the negativity towards Officers and their jobs.
I would pay a Cop extra if they caught the most drunks, dope dealers, baby rapers, killers and thieves....
I would pay a teacher more if she had the best test scores....
I would pay a soldier more on confirmed insurgent kills.....
etc.....you get the point.
Who cares if it gives the cops too much of an incentive to stop people......maybe you might not be drunk, but have a warrant out for murder.....
I keep saying......."If you live LEGAL, you have nothing to worry about". And just think if your family was traveling on the same road.....wouldn't you want to make sure that there were no drunks on the road with them??
***Not YOU (Asker)....just you in general....
Good question.

NO. They should receive Recognition ! Police Officers are paid to do a job, and catching drunk drivers is one of them. Police men and women put their lives on the line everyday, with most people running them down, without even a word of praise from the public. I salute the officers and say TY, I appreciate you.

failure to maintain a lane, headlights off, using on the incorrect fringe of the line, ingesting a lager, killing someone. those are belongings you search for. save using less than the impression of alcohol. you receives stuck. you'll spend thousands and characteristic a record. you'd be cuffed like a effortless criminal, you will pay and pay and pay. (as adversarial to a 5 or 10 greenback cab experience) in case you kill or injure someone, you'll face legal expenditures. In NYS, you presently get 25 years for killing someone at the same time as less than the impression of alcohol. every person who receives ONE DWI, a lot less dissimilar, has a severe ingesting situation. every person who's searching for procedures to force less than the impression of alcohol also has a ingesting situation. the straightforward truth is, you won't be able to disguise the very truth you're less than the impression of alcohol. Thats why it truly is against the law. diverse shows and exams have shown that your using is off with in basic terms some beverages. you receives stuck, I assure it. per chance no longer this time, yet one evening. i might want to commence a mark downs account. legal experts are severe priced, so are the fines, revocation expenditures, automobile siezures, coverage prices etc etc. with somewhat of luck you do not homicide someone i comprehend.

No. That would give the police too much incentive to pull people over without a good reason, in the hopes of manufacturing lots of drunk driving convictions.

the incentive for a police officer is to uphold his/hers sworn duty to protect the public, no matter the crime. your idea may distract officers from performing their duties to only focus on
impaired drivers while letting other crimes to take second place, for monetary gain. sorry, won't work.
