Too much sugar, yo. You need to water it down by about 50%.

I've heard some moms totally freak out if you even mention the word "juice." You just have to limit the amounts. I personally buy 100% juice (no added sugar), which actually counts as a serving of fruit. I also water it down with water (about 50/50). My daughter gets water and milk also, so it's not like she's just chugging juice all day. And I brush her teeth before bed so it's definitely not rotting her teeth. What's even worse for toddlers teeth is not juice, but thick starchy foods like crackers. It gets stuck in their teeth and can cause cavities, whereas juice just gets washed away from their saliva. (And as far as the obesity....I drank juice as a child and am not even remotely overweight, and my daughter is thin, so that's totally not an issue.) Some parents just aren't very informed.

actually juice isn't really good for you at all. It contains very high amounts of sugar. People think it's the same as eating fruit but it's not, when you eat fruit your body has to work to break down the fibers and much of the sugar is not absorbed, in juice the sugar causes an instant spike in blood sugar (which is why they give it to diabetics), plus the juice rots your teeth. So while there's no harm in drinking juice sometimes, you can't blame the parents for wanting their child to be healthy. plus it can give small kid diarrhea and if you've ever dealt with that in a baby in diapers, you might be a little hesitant too.

Real juice can be high in fiber and bind a baby up internally. If you've ever had to live with a constipated baby suffering through stomach cramps while trying to go you'd understand.

Other juices are very high in sugars which are very bad for newly forming teeth and bones. So just understand that parents are trying to find the happy median with their child and make life as easy as possible both now and ten years from now.

It has alot of sugar and makes them hyper. The sugar can also rot their teeth as some kids arent good about letting parents brush or brushing their own teeth. Those are just the starter reasons. Some parents believe it can increase their child's chance at obesity. Think if you've got a chubby chil who drinks like my son does (he gussles everything) and he wants 4 or 5 sippy cups of juice and each sippy cup is about 100 calories there are 500 calories or emptiness. SO parents water down the juice to protect their children really from themselves.

I don't know if I am a weird parent.....

Undiluted juice gives 2 of my kids severe intestinal distress.

Yes, the juice is good for them Vitamin C, etc, etc but my kids can't properly digest it yet.

Plus, our pediatric dentist is really down on juice due to the natural sugars rotting teeth & advising water instead. If the kids brush or parents brush the kids teeth this shouldn't be an issue. But, I will be happy when everybody can drink juice in my family.

Juice isn't good for anyone. Its empty calories and loaded with sugar. Even baby juice--read 100% juice. Children, especially babies under a year old, shouldn't be filling up on empty caloris, they need the nutrition provided in breast milk or formula. Dentists refer to apple juice as cavity juice because its so bad on teeth.

Those who do give juice should give it sparingly (less than 4 oz per day) and preferable watered down.

Too much juice is not good. I don't give my child a lot of juice because I think it is empty calories. I feed my kids a lot of fruit instead. This helps them stay away from junk food because when they ask for a snack they get fruit. That fills them up more than juice. It looks like toddlers are only suppose to get 4 to 6oz a day.

Yes it's better for you compared to soda and such but, it contains a lot of sugar. As a parent your generally trying to contain the amount of sugar since it seems to come from everywhere. Most parents give their children juice that's been diluted with water.

probably b/c of the sugar in juice.
even if it's 100% fruit juice, which most juices aren't, they are still packed with sugar, natural sugar, but sugar none the less.

i drink water, milk and OJ in the morning. period. that is it. i intend to teach my son the same thing. i'm not a big fan of juice. i don't mind juice and im sure apple juice and grape juice will be in the house from time to time, however, i want him to learn the value of water and milk in his diet.

if he wants juice, then he can eat some fruit. it's better for him and doesn't have as high of a sugar content!

take care.

SAME HERE!! I heard it all the time from a couple friends. Man it was so annoying!! A little juice 1 or 2 oz. mixed with 6-7 oz of water is ok. Thats all I would do and they would allways nag why are you giving them that! Yes it is good for you, if you buy 100% juice.

Water is good too. But yes it isnt really good for teeth but how would you feel just drinking water everyday and all day? Of course some milk too. My kids are 6 and 3 and they are healthy and not chunky. Actually a little skinny.
