You have to file a tax return if:

Your gross earnings were $8,450 or over and you are filing single-

Your gross earnings were $5,150 or over and you are a dependent-

So it sounds like you are not required to file a return but most people do anyway because you will most likely get a refund of your federal withholding since you did not make very much from your part-time job.

If that was your only income for the entire year, you do not need to file taxes, but WAIT ... you probably want to file a tax return because if they took out taxes your are probably due a refund.

If that's your only income for the year and it's not from self-employment, then no you don't. If it's from self-employment, then yes, the limit to have to file is $400.
