I think it has to do with a good first impression. When you first meet someone, you dont want them to see all of your bad qualities. Havent you noticed that after you have spent more time with someone, your 'bad' qualities start to unravel? It's because they already saw the first impression and they see more of your real self.

I think it's because they want to make a good first impression. Especially if they respect you or like you, or they want you to take interest in them. I'm usually always polite to people I meet, because, first of all, it's good manners, and because I don't want them to not want to talk to me or get to know me better because I wasn't very polite to them. They don't know you when they first meet you, so they don't know how well you react to first impressions. And you don't know them, either, so if you see that they're acting impolite, then you might think that that person isn't a good person, or that you wouldn't want to spend time with them. Being polite on first meetings is very important in business, so if you're involved in that kind of work then you're generally going to meet (I hope) professional people who will act polite (again, it's the first impression thing).

Cause we are formed this way into society. I don't know.... I am polite because I appreciate the fact that as we meet people there is a chance that we could learn from that person.
I like people....LMAO

Because its like a dance of approval.. Even though a lot of people act as if they don't care what other people think it is human nature to want to be accepted(or liked) and first impressions mean a lot.

Because that is the nice thing to do. When they know you better, they might not like you so much, so the become less polite.

I don't believe it's in a persons nature to be rude at 1st. Could change soon, but most people do not to fight always. They have to have at least 1 friend. And they can be damn hard to come by. So everyone should not waste their opportunities.
They will regret it later.

Because they don't know you well enough to know if you're armed. I mean, face it, would you be rude to someone packing a .357 Magnum with a 6 inch barrel? I wouldn't.
