Go to your local vet hospital and ask them if it's ok for you to shadow the techs for a day and mention that you are interested in becoming a veterinary assistant or a receptionist (many techs start out as receptionists). Do this at various hospitals until you find one that is willing to pay you. Dropping a resume also helps.

There are two ways of becoming a tech: You can work under the supervision and training of a vet for 2 years (or more depending on the state), you keep a record of all your paychecks and how many hours you worked and then you can apply for registration. A registered tech (RVT) makes more than a veterinary assistant.

You can also check your local colleges and find one that offeres the RVT program. Some offer night classes, some only offer an actual curriculum. Is about 1.5-2 yrs of classes depending on how fast you go, and then you apply to the state board to become registered.

Both ways are perfectly acceptable, one way you earn more experience quicker, the other one you learn the theory and understand better why the dr. will ask you to do certain things. Board exams to become registered are not easy, so whichever way you chose you still need to study hard. Hope this helps!

Get with a local vet, and get a job, it is good, you will learn, you will get paid, easy.. @. get some books. they help alot though not as much as real life. #. see if you can handle stuff like uthinatias, or helping an animal pass away quicker. see if you can see a cat with its eye popping out of its head, see if you can handle the dirty work. my mom is a vet and i was gomnna be one to, I couldnt stand killing, and a cat with its eye popping out did come in. It is not always glamor. remember that. There is *shudder* fileing and you have to get degrees and go to a good school. on the better side pets are wonderful and there is nothing better then saving something an entire family loves and cherishes. Just take hte good with the bad. You are of to agreat start, keep itr up!

Good for you. Sounds like you're on the right track. I would visit a local vet school. I'm not sure where you are. Michigan State University has vet days. Perhaps volunteer at a local shelter or rescue. Keep those grades up.

You have to do some degrees for that and it's not so easy.
You can make some search on yahoo or google to find what are the qualifications the vet has .

depending how old you are? if you are old enough see if you can get a part time job at a vets office as kennel help or at a dog shelter or something like that.
