I am struggling here. Do we die because it is our time and God calls us? If so here is my problem---- If I drink and drive and kill someone in an accident, it was my free will to choose the poor choice of drinking and driving. But if it was the innocents time to go, wouldn't that make my action pre- determined? Then what has happened to free will? The problem is I believe in free will, God gave it to us. Or does God just decide to take( or refuse) us when our mortal body gives out.

The Bible tells us, “…All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be” (Psalm 139:16). So, yes, God knows exactly when, where, and how we will die. God knows absolutely everything about us (Psalm 139:1-6). So, does this mean our fate is sealed? Does this mean we have absolutely no control over when we will die? The answer is both yes and no.

The answer is yes because God knows everything and knows exactly when, where and how we will die. Nothing we can do will change what God already knows will happen. The answer is no because we do have an impact on when, where, and how we die. Obviously, a person who commits suicide causes their own death. A person who commits suicide would have lived longer had they not committed suicide. Similarly, a person who dies because of a foolish decision (i.e., drug use) “expedited” their own death. A person who dies of lung cancer from smoking would not have died in the same way or at the same time if they had not smoked. A person who dies of a heart attack due to a lifetime of extremely unhealthy eating and little exercise would not have died in the same way or at the same time if they had eaten healthier foods and exercised more. Yes, our own decisions have an undeniable impact on the manner, timing, and place of our death.

The thing is that when God decides it is time for a person to go, then they're going to go. No matter how, it maybe that God decided for her to die by a drunk driver, to show others that it is dangerous.

Free-will, yes you had the choice and you chose. It is complicated and long. But the fact of the matter is that we don't know what God knows, so we do have free-will. If u had known that youd've killed some body would u have done it? No but you didn't know that so you did.

I believe that death is random. No where in the Bible does it state that God plans our death for any particular time.

God only said that because of sin...we will die.

Most things in this world are due to mans choices...those things that happen to him...and those things that he causes to happen to others. (like the drinking and driving scenario) God will only intervene if he has a purpose in doing so.

I believe we die because it is our time. God is completely soverign over life. .....in your example, it was your free will to kill that person in the accident, but for God he was ready for them to go. You are still responsible for the horrible thing you did, but I beleive that God didn't set it up so you would kill that person, but that God knew and intended for them to die at that time. So: God didn't determine how you would act, but he used your action to accomplish his plan (for bobby to go to heaven that day). Thus, your free will is still in tact.

However....I am a calvinist and I believe that God can intervene with free will. but that's my opinion.

Once we are born unto this Earth... nothing remains predetermined! Let me explain -

Whether I shall be born in the house of a king or a laborer is determined from the residual balance of karma of all the previous manifestations by our soul atman within. No need to mention that it is our soul atman within that is on its cosmic journey. To shed the impurities within (to remove the dross within) our soul atman manifests body after another.

Having born in the house of a laborer... I can still marry the king's daughter... the Princess! How? By performing the requisite karma in the present life... I can change my destiny? My predetermined destiny was to live life as a laborer. By grace of God and free will, I can (if I want to) change the path of my destiny.

Similarly if I don't do anything in the present life... death will come on its own based on the residual balance of karma of the previous lives. It shall be termed as predetermined! But is that possible? Can a single human being live even for a second without performing any karma? That is just not possible! Even if we sit idle... thousands of thoughts passing through our brain will make us do our karma... whatever it is! The small stomach will ask for its food. We have to indulge... and the course of our life changes!

By performing requisite karma even death can be snatched away from the king of death. In Hinduism we have the famous episode of Satyavan and Savitri. It so happened... that Satyavan died. Savitri was not convinced of his immature death. She decided to fight and gave such a grueling wordy dual to Yama (the king of death) that Yama ultimately conceded defeat and left the soul atman of Satyavan intact. Satyavan lived for many more years for which the complete credit goes to his wife Savitri.

Every human being in the cosmic system continues doing ones karma. When death arrives... none knows! Our soul atman within is on its long cosmic journey. In the cosmic system... nothing dies... on the earthly domain the family weeps bereaved. For a soul atman within every single life span is just the passing mileage pillars on the highway. Why worry of the inevitable! Nothing is in control of the body. Our soul atman within our heart is the master of the body. More on death - http://www.godrealized.com/Death.html

Pre-determined. I believe God has a life and death plan for everyone. So, however we go out - whether its when we are young or old; sick or well -- Thats the way God planned for us to go.

i have self belief our lives have a starting up and a end. in the course of the technique our existence we've a purpose and particular training the soul desires to study. there's a reason, why human beings come out and in of our existence, and why we meet human beings say in line on the food market. that ought to the mapped out element of existence. The random, is the options we make. To rob the save with a gun and shoot someone, to marry someone we are no longer meant to. therefore the destiny ought to no longer anticipated in the way of your existence will end at 25 with the aid of a freak twist of destiny. yet historic previous does repeat itself.

Nothing in the Universe is "pre-determined". The Universe is pure chaos.

I think it's a little of both.....We have free will, but sometimes for lessons of love that we have little understanding about, things are fated/destiny. I think life is a mix of both. Great question.

Peace, Love, and Blessings
