That's sad, too bad she won't let her daughter be a little girl for a while. They grow up so fast.
Try to counter this by offering educational trips to the museum, involve her in social volunteer work for causes you believe in. Try to build her awareness about careers for women. There is plenty of time later for boys.

Very young. There was a story in the news, where mothers were taking their daughters as young as 5 years old to get their hair dyed or highlighted. I've also seen young boys with highlighted hair. What next?!!!!

Dying your hair and highlighting can be harmful sometimes (I've heard it sometimes causes cancer) and it definitely ruins the hair's luster. But, if it's their mother's choice, I'm sorry but I think you've got to leave it at that. That's the sad reality of step-parenting.
Also, I think it's ridiculous that their mother lets her 10-YEAR-OLD daughters out on dates with their BOYFRIENDS! They shouldn't have boyfriends! They are much too young.

well, it is really the choice of the parent. It's not like a tattoo of anything that is permanent and possibly a health hazard. I think that isn't too early I know a girl who's 8 with highlights, that's pretty extreme if you ask me. 10 is probably ok, I would probably let my daughters get highlights if they were 10 and that was what they wanted.

This sounds like a little girl who I teach. Mind you she is in the fourth grade. She too had highlights and frankly I thought that is too young. Anyways she growing up to be a whore just like her older sister so I don't feel sympathy for the family.

yea it definetly is a little young, i highlighted my hair when i was 12. evryone is trying to "grow up" soo much faster than before, evryone is now pressured into wearing nice clothes, doing their hair, etc., whhich is normal - for a TEEN girl. but u rly shouldn't say anything cause their ur stepdaughters, and u dont want to start any fights that would make them hate u.

yes this is harmful coloring has harmones and cancer causing ingrediants on the news a while back they even have flat irons that can effect a womans health
nicely tell her to use a rinse or peroxide,or a semi permanent color if she must give her daughter adult looks what happened to barbies and teddybears and candy!!!!!!

This isn't really about hair, is it?
I suggest "Family and Relationships" or "Society and Culture" as a sounding board for the issues beyond hair.
IMO, if the girls' hair looks like their mom's hair, age isn't an issue.

They are not your children. Yes though, I do aggree that is a bit young. It might start a fight if you confront the mother of the girls. Everyboday has their own opinions about this kind of stuff.

Welcome to Step Parenthood.
I once had a Step daughter who's father, when she was 15, wanted to buy her a car. We lived in Sacramento he lived in Vegas. That would leave me and her mom responsible to make sure she didn't get into trouble with the car. That time I was able to stop it. Just be glad it is only hair.
