I think the name is funny, my girlfriend and I go around calling each other honky all the time. (were both white) I even think it's funny when George Jefferson on the Jefferson calls us white people honkys. I'm not offended by it at all, am I missing the point of being called a HONKY?

I can honestly say even if a black person called me a honky, I would not be offended. But I can see where if the N word was used on them they would be. I wouldn't want to be called that if I were black, but since I'm white I really don't mind being called a honky and I don't feel it's racist. To me honky is FUNNY!.

It's just that it carries no weight as an insult. You might as well be calling me a "radish".

Every time I've been called a honky it has been by blacks who were close friends of mind and it was done in fun. However I do realize there are a lot people out there who don't know what real friendship is and they probably think I should have felt offended. A lot of people need to learn how to laugh at one another and have fun with the things that make us different.

It's not that the word is offensive in itself. I'm not offended by it either, but if true equality is to be achieved, then we need to stop calling each other things that carry racist meanings. The word 'honky' refers to the fact that white people have more narrow nasal passages than black people, which apparently makes our voices sound ...well, 'honky'. It doesn't bother me a bit, but it IS racist.

I completely agree with you. Some people take life too seriously. What the world needs is humor and acceptance. Good on ya you honky person.

Only we whites can call each other honky! No one else has any right to call us the H word!

Gawd, shows like The Jeffesons and All in the Family would be on HBO these days....

Before I even read your "add in's" I thought this question sounded like a "Jefferson" spin off, and I was "right." My stepfather loved to poke humor at the racist by saying, "where do these people get off calling white people white. At work I call all my co-workers 'pinkie,' blacks 'hersey,' and my mexican buddies 'taco.' Nobody gets offended and laughs because it sounds just as ridiculous as the stupid remarks racist people make......" People nowadays get their feelings hurt so easily it makes you wonder if there are any ADULTS left in the world.......

It would not offend me, but yes it's meant to be an insult. Believe me, if the situation were reversed, the other person wouldn't handle it with a grain of salt. It's stupid how name calling can really get to some people but not others.
...Notice you don't really see shows like "All In the Family" these days because of how quickly some people call it racism... When people make fun of whitey, though - those same people call it entertainment!

I don't get 'honky' nearly as often as I get 'cracker'. But neither of them have a history of discrimination as an undercurrent in their use, the way the N word does.

Yes, but using other words will get you fired. Where will all the rappers work and make money now that bad words will be banned?
