My old cat urinated on the carpet and the smell just won't come out! I have used a carpet cleaner so far. What else should I try?

Carpet has pad under it that cleaner probably can't reach. I would recommend pulling up carpet and switching to hardwood floors.

My grandpa and I pulled the carpet off is hardwood floors and discovered cat piss stains in all four corners of the dining room.

I recommend hooking up one of those stun collars to your cats urethra until he learns to pee outside.

oh my gosh I have dealt with this, but I use multiple things. I have had both dog and cat urine on my carpet.I have Berber carpet and when my dog peed on it I had to soak up all the pee or as much as I could using towels or paper towels and then I would spray some clorox anywhere hard surface spray its a new product and I don't know why I used it the first time I did, but it worked it helped get rid of the smell and when it had dried I didn't have a pee stain. Also try Arm and Hammer carpet freshener and they even have a no vacuum carpet freshener that smells great.

There are many products such as Nature's Miracle that use microbial enzymes to "eat" odor causing bacteria. Soak that or a similar product (pet stores and Veterinarians carry them), into your carpet and allow it to sit for a decent amount of time. Then blot it up with a towel. If this does not get rid of the smell, you may not have penetrated the carpet deeply enough so you may need to reapply more the second time and maybe allow it to sit longer. You could also use a carpet shampooer and put some of the product into the reservoir with the regular shampoo. Also ,if it is an old cat you may want to get him checked and see that it is not arthritic. One of the things you could do is try to make the litter box more easily accessible to him. Older cats sometimes have trouble climbing into the litter box.

By now, the urine has probably soaked through the carpet and into the padding. Now, you could try soaking the area with vinegar, then using the carpet cleaner again. But you might be better off taking up the carpet and padding, sealing the floor with KILZ, and putting down new carpet.

Get rid of the cat.

I mean, um, we've used shaving cream do cover dog urine, you might want to try that. It's the old fashioned kind in a short, red canister and it dispenses foam not gel.

If you don't remove the smell the cat (or dog) will return to that spot and mark it again and again.

Odo-ban works for our kitty, even when he's gone to the bathroom other ways and thrown up! I would say try that and check out the store for others. Hope everything works out for you!
