I am a 15 year old girl, 5'2 and in the morning I weigh 118.5-120.5 pounds. I hate the way I look, I think I look very fat, but everytime I try to eat less and exersice more I do not end up loosing weight.
I am a long distance runner and swimmer.
Any advice? My goal weight is 104 pounds.

You are a long distance and swimmer, which means a lot of your weight is coming from muscle, as opposed to body fat.

I'm your weight and have 25% body fat, but then I'm not athletic like you. With all your extra muscle mass, your body fat may only be around 20% or less.

If this is the case, getting down to 104lb could well be 'underfat' and extremely unhealthy for you. You can lose your periods and put your bones at risk of early onset osteoperosis. I'm sure you don't want this to happen, do you.

Also, the reason you probably can't lose weight, is because you are still building even more muscle. Comparing fat to muscle is like comparing feathers to lead, it's much heavier in the same volumes as fat. Please just ignore the scale and consider having your body fat percentage checked to get an accurate idea of your true fitness level.

Take care : )

Hey, you are just fine, if you are a runner and a swimmer you must be in good shape. Everyone has their own weight that is right for them when they are in shape. Don't ever think that you have to look like a model, be glad for who you are and don't be so hard on yourself. Watch what you eat, and keep up the exercising. When you are 10-20 years older you'll wish you could look like you do now!

Don't listen to them. You're a distance runner and a swimmer, meaning that you have a lot of muscle!! i'm the same...well i'm a distance runner and i weight 117 pounds and i'm the same height and people tell me i'm beautiful...i'm sure your extra pounds comes from the upper body muscles that i don't have... lol! I'm almost 18, but you're 15 so you're probably in high school and i haven't changed since i got into high school.

My initial response was going to be that you are probably overweight. Then you said you are a swimmer and runner. That changes things. If you take a glass and fill it with body fat, and you take another glass just like and put muscle tissue into that one, the one with the muscle will weigh six times as much. Muscle tissue is much heavier than fat. So your weight might be just fine. It also explains why you don't lose weight when you exeercise more. You are adding muscle and taking off fat. That extra muscle is heavier than the fat you're taking off. Forget the number. Ask a friend or, better still, ask your doctor. He or she will be able to judge.

If you're a runner and swimmer, then you're obviously reasonably athletic. You might carry 10 more pounds of muscle than other girls your age and height, in which case your weight is PERFECTLY HEALTHY!!!

If you're still at all concerned about it, then find somebody who can help you check your bodyfat percentage. That's a MUCH better indicator than BMI.

According to the unexact science of the Body Mass Index, you're in the normal range for your height.

As you can see, you are perfect dear, for a medium frame. When you look in the mirror, don't be so critical. At your age is when trouble can start (anorexia, bulemia, etc.) Think about those your age that weigh 200 lbs.
