Men or women? I don't care. Guys, if you wear a wedding band, do you always leave it on? Ladies, do you always leave yours on?

I'm just curious. I don't usually wear rings, and I find that my hands swell in the morning. Plus, I have crazy hair, so I'm not sure that wearing a ring in shower is a good idea.

(Getting ready for him to pop the question! I've heard whispers! So excited!)

Soap, shampoo, cleaning products, lotions, cosmetics, etc., can all make your diamonds look filmy, and possibly even permanently damage your ring. Sleeping and vigorous activities like sports can weaken and even break the prongs in your setting. Why would you take those chances with such an important piece of jewelry? I certainly wouldn't be scrubbing toilets or working with raw meat wearing my rings - they mean too much to me to abuse them like that.

Plus, water and other liquids can get trapped behind your ring and not only erode the metal, but potentially cause rashes on your fingers. I don't even wear my rings when we go to the beach or in the pool - your ring falls off there and you might as well kiss it goodbye because you'll probably never see it again.

I generally don't wear my rings at home - only when I go out of the house. I'd rather them not get damaged. My husband doesn't wear his rings at home either, or when he is working in the lab. For him, it's a safety issue since he works with chemicals.

I find that if you are careful and responsible with your rings, you don't have to worry about damaging them. I only keep them in 2 places in our house - in a box in our living room if I take them off downstairs or on my dresser if I take them off upstairs. If we're traveling, I take them off and connect them to my bracelet and put them in my travel jewelry case until I put them back on again.

I have always worn both rings in the shower and to sleep although I have been married for quite a while now and only break out my engagment ring for special occasions, but I never remove my wedding band, I shower, clean, change diapers, everything with it on. However, I only have a plain band, my ring has no ornamentation and although I would assume that I would wear a fancy band just as I do now, I cant be positive. If you have a fancy wedding band you may want to consider getting a plain band as well for doing everyday stuff that you wont cry over if by chance it gets damaged or lost.

Yes, I wear my rings all the time, only taking them off every once in a while to dip in the jewelry cleaner solution. I'm used to wearing rings 24/7, it's usually 2-3 rings per hand. My husband doesn't wear a wedding band as he works with electronics on the daily basis. His is put away.

I do but it's really a personal decision. The only time i take my stuff off is when i'm cleaning (the bleach will erode your rings and could potentially make u lose ur diamond) and when i go to the barn and ride my horses. I'm always afraid my diamond will get caught in my reins or on something and get lost. When i clean i take everything off, and when I ride i take just my diamond off. I have a locket that my husband gave me this xmas that i wear 24/7, when i clean i put my rings onto that chain. The locket is almost as special to me as my diamond is because we're a military couple and he gave it to me as a going away present. It symbolizes that our love knows no boundaries and that a piece of his heart will always be with mine and vice versa. It's the one piece of jewlry i never take off, especially when he is gone. If your so attached to it u can leave it on, but consider taking it off when u use bleach or they won't last long. I have long hair and it's fine with me in the shower, as far as your hands swelling you may need to drink more or have your heart or blood pressure checked. I did that back in HS and they said i had to drink more and it's related to heart problems that later developed and i'm now on meds for. U prolly do need to get checked if your swelling that much, either that or your rings are a quarter size too small.

Personally I never take them off unless I'm in danger of harming them and then I have a crystal heart shaped box beside the kitchen and bathroom sinks and they go immediately in there...just know that should you ever forget to put them back on you might get the 20 questions...especially if it is a just received engagement ring! He could take this as a sign that you don't really like the ring or worse!

Good Luck

I have the same problem. My hands swell in the morning and my ring leaves an imprint on my finger. I normally leave it on while I sleep, but take it off in the shower. I am always affraid that the soap will slip it off and down the drain! It also keeps it a little cleaner becuase the soap will kinda make it less shiny until you get it cleaned again.

Good Luck!

I have been engaged since December and I leave my ring on all the time. The only time I take it off is when I go swimming because I am afraid the chlorine might mess with it or it will fall off when i swim laps. I don't think it would because it fits really well, but just one thing i want to be extra careful of.

congrats!

I've been engaged since February, but I don't wear my rings while sleeping or showering, and I pretty much take it off when I hang out at home. I know most people wear theirs constantly, but I just don't--even though I LOVE it and my finace to death.
