they are all based on no more than words in a book. Why does Scientology seem silly and Christianity not. Why believe one and not the other

come on, the only difference is one is old and one is new. otherwise neither have anything more to start from than a book. so if you are going to base your entire existence around words from a book, why the bible...why not Scientology or the Joy Of Cooking or Odysseus or Winnie the Pooh.

People, you are not getting it. I do not mean differences in the beliefs, i mean what is the difference in falling for one book and not another. Sheesh.

I agree, there's really no good reason to buy into one myth instead of another.

Well one difference would be that the bible has inspired millions of people to actually apply the teachings to the world, and when I say apply I mean by assisting and helping the worlds wounds in it's centers of rehabilitation for the mentally and physically ill, food distribution centers to the hungry, medical aid to the needy. Are there people that use the bible for own personal gain? Sure there will always be that, shall we sacrifice the good because some have elected to use it for selfish reasons? I wonder how many cook books and scientologists have built mission centers and aid centers in areas of destitution around the world. Look and go to the worst places in this world that people are suffering and who do you see there aiding and making efforts? Scientologists, authors of great books? I think not. Inspiring people to live for the betterment of all especially the poor and suffering and inspiring enough to go out and do something and not just theorize on how nice it would be to do it to feel better for self and not for others, that's the primary difference. That's all in the power of belief and hey does it really matter why we believe? as much as what we're willing to do for that belief? Well if we're willing to take action and help better our lives as humans as a whole and not just talk or think about it and actually do it, that's a cause worthy of a belief. Oh and by the way I don't need to be "audited" or be qualified as a mind "auditor" to begin to help others based on my belief. Whats up with that in Scientology? Mind auditing? Sounds a bit morbid and invasive. But hey that's just my opinion.

I think all in all it comes down to what poeple choose to believe. However, in my opinion and observation, the Bible has been confirmed over and over again by archaeology, other historical documents, etc. Scientology started out four years before the founding of the religion with L. Ron Hubbard's book Dianetics: The Modern Science of Mental Health. When they saw the sub-title of the book, the psychiatric industry started saying, "Science? It's a science? Okay, then show us your research using the scientific method, Mr. Hubbard," and rather than producing it, L. Ron Hubbard formed the Church of Scientology and cried about religious persecution by these very evil psychiatrists.

Scientology truly is diverse than the different faith because Scientology isn't a faith in any respect. it really is said as a faith for tax and PR purposes. i do not say this depending on the writings of others on my own. I ensue to have personal adventure with that employer. Do you? It matches the classic definition of the recommendations administration cult. no want to take my note, examine it out for your self once you're so prone yet dangle on on your wallet.

Actually, intelligent aliens coming down to earth from time to time makes more sense than a guy allegedly crucified who came back to life for a couple of days and then went flying up to the pearly gates...
Hinduism IS different in that it has no authoritative book...there are many Holy scriptures but there isn't a "game book" as it were...which makes sense because as people evolve (or de-evolve, sometimes I'm not so sure which) what is needed spiritually may evolve (or de-evolve)

The only truth you can find is truth in itself. Meaning, do not find truth here. Find it with your own convictions. And that doesnt mean googling the word scientology. Scientology must be experienced in itself, if it does not work then do not continue, if it does aid you then go forward. It isnt any different than saying I want to change my life, and doing so, that is what scientology is.

LOL you cant be friggen serious.

Scientology believes the soul is an alien being and we all escaped from an intergalactic overlord of sorts and found our way to earth.
No we are here inhabiting these bodies as a
game. The only way we can truly manage these flesh things is to become a scientologist and pay the exorbitant amounts of money to "Clear" us.

Hahahahahaha

Christianity is not based upon a book. Christianity is the fullfillment of the Old Testament. Prophesey fullfilled is evidence. Scientology is a new age religion or false religion we are to be aware of.

No, Christianity is based on the powerful life of one person. Jesus Christ. Our "book" as you call it is the living Word of Jesus.

It is no mere book. It breathes life into our souls, it heals the body and the mind.
