I was afraid of the same thing. My doctor's actual words were, "I don't believe in that stuff" (the weight gain 'rumors'). I started off on 10mgs, felt nauseous for a day or two and then it passed. When I was upped to 20mgs about 6 weeks later, I felt sick again but that also passed. Same thing when I was upped to 30mgs. I also took Ativan and then Klonopin with the Lexapro. I noticed no change in my weight until about 3 weeks ago where I realized I felt thinner. I weighed myself and found that I had dropped about 10 lbs since I began the meds 6 months before. I came to the conclusion that because I'm less depressed and 'crazy' that I leave the house more and get way more exercise. I assume that's the reason I lost weight, not because it's a 'side effect' of the medication. Lexapro NEVER made me sleepy so that would be something that may happen to other people, but certainly not to me. I take Klonopin which is a sedative and I still don't feel sleepy! I was lazy and depressed before the meds and stayed in bed all day crying. Moving around made me lose the weight (I believe)

My daughter was on Lexapro and she went from a size 3 to a 17 in a matter of 3 months. I also have a friend who is on it and she looks great. This is what I think and have experienced seeing.
My daughter 18 at the time did this, she ate unhealthy, slept, talked on the phone and sat at the computer desk.
My girlfriend 36 goes to college, has two kids, works out and does Karate.
I have had Doctors tell my daughter and self that they would never put a teenager on this medication because of the weight gain, but my friend has an amazing body? She is also very active. I think it might have alot to do with the person themselves and not so much the med. Hope this helps.

I was on Celexa for three years and hated the side effects. My doctor switched me to Zoloft which did nothing for me. I have been on Lexapro for 6 weeks and feel great. I have been trying to lose weight for the past 4 years through exercise and diet. No luck. Since I have started on Lexapro, I have lost 8 pounds.

The only reason you might gain weight is because the drug makes you feel better and want to eat. When I was on it, it made me NOT want to eat. I didn't react well to it anyway. I feel much better on prozac. If you experience anything that is proven to be a side effect, it would be weight loss.

I've lost 5 kilos in my first week. It's my 10th day and I have included salad with some protein (eg. egg/ lean chicken) as you suggested. After 4 years of trying, the fat is finally coming off. It truly feels like magic!
Get started today!
