Does anyone know if a dna test was done and the father is the father does his name HAVE to be on a birth cert? before i get any bad comments i do know who the father is we no longer talk tho and i do not plan on getting child support or anything i just would like the proof it is his child say if anything bad were to happen to the father...my 2nd childs father has passed away and i know now it will be easy to prove a father alive then waiting til something horrible happeneds but don't want his name on the certi since he has not plans on being a father to the child

Yes, you can have a DNA test done and not have him on the birth certificate. You need to select a lab that is accepted by the courts or it is of no value to you. However, if he has the DNA test, the father can insist on being placed on the birth certificate, even if you object.

On the other hand, you need to make arrangments in a will as far as care of your child if something happens to YOU. Otherwise, the child nearly automatically will go to his father as next-of-kin.

they don't do dna tests at birth. whomever is listed on the birth cert. is considered the father in the eyes of the law unless someone disputes it. if the name of your child's father is not listed, you may be able to go back and have it put on but i don't know what the legalities are. contact the county in which the child was born.

No it doesn't HAVE to be on the certificate, but it should be. Down the road, the child will start asking questions that may be too painful for you to answer. You should never leave information off such an important document.

My niece's father was proven to be the father but isn't on the birth certificate.

No, there does not need to be a "dads" name
