I am a senior in a public high school doing an independent study in religion, I teach a class every Friday. I am giving a presentation along with a power point on Islam in one week. Islam is my favorite religion and I would really like to do a good job educating my class on it. I was wondering if any Muslim’s have anything that they think it is important for me to include, or any input at all. It is a basic overview (history, beliefs, etc) and I am also including a special section on discrimination against Muslims. Anything at all is welcome, I am also looking for sound clips, you tube videos, etc. Thank you for helping me.

YOU need to calm down. revenge isnt justice and never will be. And YES there certainly are abuses of power involved in a teacher student relationship. You only get one shot at an education and the idea that someone with the power to control your success or failure, could use that power to get sexual gratification, is a real threat to the values we HUMANS hold dear. Teachers can use their powers of persuasion and pretty words to fill the minds of kids with notions of big brother and use the kind of affection which many at that age haven't known yet, to twist a perversion into a seemingly innocent act. Just because a young mind can't see that very clearly doesnt make it any less true. Teachers know this all too well and they have to read and sign lengthy legal codes of conduct which lay it all out. Our laws are in place to protect the vulnerable from this sort of abuse. apparently from the likes of YOU

Hello there,
That's a very great job you are doing and it makes me only happy that there are people who try to give a less (I hope) bias information to the public.
You can find great things on the internet about the basics of islam, the pillars of islam, its history.
One thing I would encourage you is to make your students aware about the need to be critical about how islam is protraied in the media, the importance of going to the sources. Nothing is better than meeting muslims, not just reading books, cos the most valuable information you will get from those who choose to live islam everyday and have the glow of faith in their eyes...

Hi, I'm not a Muslim, but I think it's great that you are doing this, and that you have a love for the religion. I think it would be interesting to mention how the Muslims see life as being guided by God, and this is evident in their practice of saying things like "Insh'Allah" which means "If God is willing" and "Mashallah" which I think means something like Thank God, but it conveys the sense that all is up to God. You could maybe find some of these expressions online. Or maybe a Muslim here will provide you with better definitions.

Another thing that is very important these days is the issue of the headcovering (Hijab) and veil (Niqab). There is discrimination in many countries against women who choose to wear the hijab and/or niqab. It is a mistake to think that women in Islam are oppressed because of their modest way of dressing. I have a webpage on world religions, and I have a section on Islam (there's not too much on it right now - but you're welcome to use whatever's there) http://www.pathsofdevotion.com/islam.html
I have done a special section there on Modesty in Islam at http://www.pathsofdevotion.com/islam/modesty.html
I interviewed Muslim women from all over the world (via internet) and got many perspectives on how they themselves view wearing the hijab.

I think if you could actually find some items to show, it would make it memorable. For example, if you had any way to borrow a prayer rug, that would be neat. I still remember when I was in 7th grade, one of my classmates demonstrated the Muslim prayers for us, and she brought this lovely prayer rug. I was very impressed to hear the Arabic sounds.

I wish you the best in your presentation.

Muslims believe that God revealed the Qur'an to Muhammad and that Muhammad is God's final prophet. The Qur'an and the traditions of Muhammad in the Sunnah are regarded as the fundamental sources of Islam. Muslims do not regard Muhammad as the founder of a new religion, but as the restorer of the original monotheistic faith of Adam, Abraham, Jesus, Moses, and other prophets part of whose messages had become distorted either in interpretation, textually, or both.

I would answer in my words but this would better answer your question.

May the peace, blessing and mercy of God be upon you

I am only one year older than you, I am a freshman in University. I would really say, to present this article, about the purpose of life.

I am sorry to say, but Islam doesnt mean peace, that is the word Salam. Islam means "complete submission to the will of God", and a Muslim is "one who submits to the will of God".

Peace be with you, and may God guide you to the straight path

I think what you're doing is really great. I'm sure you got alot of info from the above answers, but I have something different. This would be really awesome if you used it in your PPPresentation!

They're a group of comedians called, "Allah Made Me Funny". They're way cool and really hilarious. They're a great way of helping people understand islam and not be so afraid of it, all in a funny way. I gotta say I love em. Anyways, here's the link:

One of the most interesting and attracting thing about Islam is its meaning itself...Islam means peace ,theres no religion that has the same meaning.

You can talk about the miracles in Islam.
The Quran (eternal miracle)....its mercy, and its power of healing and curing and so many things ...

You can tell a very shirt story about Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) ..about his coutesy ,how quraish treated him bad and how good he treated them back.

i'll think of more and tell u =)
