I have a computer that I bought from someone. It is fairly new, they sold it because they just were not computer literate. I can not remember what the password is and it is impossible to get in touch with the person I bought it from. It is just sitting there. Is there any way I can tap into it and change the password so that i can use the computer.

You can download the file from the following link: http://home.eunet.no/pnordahl/ntpasswd/bd050303.zip

Download the zip file and extract the files should be about 3. Once they are extracted run the install.bat file. This should open a dos window. Put a floppy disk in the drive and let it format and create a boot disk for you. Bring this disk to the computer in question and reboot with the floppy in the drive. It will boot into a version of Linux. Follow the directions on the screen. Mostly the defaults will work. When you get to the point where it asks you to list the usernames look for administrator. There may be more than one administrator account. (if this was a business computer and joined to a domain. it will be Administrator by it self that you want to edit Not the administrator.domain name.) Any way once you change the password, reboot, and log in using the administrator account. If a CTRL + ALT +Del screen pops up for you to log on, take note of the box that says log on to. Change this from the domain name to xxxxx local computers. This will allow you to log in as the local admin. Once in, Right mouse click on My Computer and go to manage. Change and or remove all other computer accounts by right mouse clicking on them and choosing the appropriate action. Also recommend removing the computer from the domain (if it was before.) Right mouse click on My Computer and go to Properties. If windows XP go to computer name, if 2000 go to Network Identification. Change check box from Domain to Workgroup.

You will need to enter a password. Enter the Administrator and password that you just changed.

Good Luck
