Last time I went trout fishing I was using Mepps spinners and Pistol Pete flies and did pretty good with them but then I noticed the guy just 20 yards away was catching about 5 trout to my one so I went over and saw what he was using. He was hooking small inch and a half long minnows through the back with a size 4 gold aberdeen bait hook and fishing them under a plastic float, just like you would if Crappie fishing. I think he limited out twice in 30 minutes. I just couldn't hardly believe how well trout will eat small minnows.

What Do Trout Eat

Fish eat fish.Big trout eat minnows.Period.Worms work, too.Wild trout eat aquatic insects and bugs that fall in the water.Large trout feed on tiny organisms, but will gladly eat a small fish if they can.I have read that they start to eat a significant % of fish in their diet starting around 10".Presentation is where most new trout fishermen struggle.Wild fish require a stealthy approach, while heavily pressured fish may hold in a spot while people walk nearby.Light line is essential.Unless the water is dingy.Trout are terribly picky and leaders down to 1# are necessary sometimes.A simple bait rig is:--1/8 oz or smaller usually(depends on current) bullet-type slip sinker--above a snap swivel.Use your bass rod with whatever line you have.Get leader material--2#--4#--tie a loop in one end--a #16 treble hook for dough/cheese--#10 or so single hook for worms/minnows.2ft leader.Fish deep water.Hang on.

Well it depends on where your fishing and what size they are . The large trout are carnivores even cannibals.they like minnows , I fish for the big ones with spinners and rapalas , They eat flies as well , A favorite of trout is a spring lizard/salamander. I have caught large trout on live lizards and small rubber ones.

Try a spinner, a rapala, trout flies, or nightcrawlers, if you can find live salamanders try one.

your best bet for trout fishing is a small jig with bright colors. You probably aren't going to do well with frogs and plastic worms (they're better for bass fishing). Also, if you are fishing in a river cast upstream and let your bait flow in the current. Keep your line tight, but don't reel it in fast.
I'm assuming you don't fly fish, but you can do really well with fly fishing as well for trout. Good luck!

Well to tell you the truth, I've tried using fake worms and they never work for me to get anything!

You are better off fly fishing and using a fake fly or by doing it the way I catch all my fish, the old fashioned worm on hook. This way you will have a better chance of catching a trout.

And if you don't have real worms go night crawler hunting tonight and get your night crawlers, this is really fun to do too! Send me a message if you don't know how or follow this link!

And good luck tommorrow fishing!
