Most don't know that one. I don't think the company has to report it but you won't get hired either.

That is going to stay with the person for a while... Although it is medical information, it IS disclosed to the State in which the driver is licensed and the Federal DOT. If the driver fails the drug screening for PRE-Employment, normally they won't hire the driver and you move on to the next company. If in fact the drug screening was either a Federal Random or Company Random/Probable cause, then the company normally will let the driver go and list his or her dismissal as "Medical Reasons". This stays with your job record and is very difficult to remove or talk your way out of at a new interview. I don't believe that this goes onto the license like points would for a traffic violation, but the DOT would set a flag for more random screenings and watch that driver much closer.

Hope this helps a little, I've never had the misfortune or lack of judgement to get into that situation.... Best of luck to the person who needs the answer though!! :-)

I've been a truck driver for 12 years, a dispatcher, and operations manager. Yes it goes on your license and is viewed by anyone that looks at your license (cops, dot, any state). you are under federal regulations. if you fail you won't get hired there and at the next place you try you may have to show some sort of rehab in order to hire on. it does affect whether or not you can be insured by the carrier.

No, its not a moving violation if it was not done roadside or in an accident. The only thing that goes on your lic is tickets written by an officer. Any drug screen once emplyed that results in a positive gets reported to a company that does background checks for companies on potential drivers.
A company formerly known as DAC services and is now usis.

The test should be confidential and privileged medical information and can't be "shared" with the state. The person is entitled to a copy of the test and should get one. Some over-the-counter medications and prescription drugs can show positive on the test, but whoever gave the test should have asked about this prior to the test. If the test was positive for illegal drugs or alcohol, they won't get hired and there's a clear signal to get professional help.

I doubt it, they just won't hire you. If you let it go, they probably will also, they don't want any hassle either.
