I discovered a great book years ago called "Fit for Life" written by Harvey and Marilyn Diamond. I followed most of the recommendations within such as only eating fruit before noon and not combining proteins and carbs. I lost 45 pounds in 2 months and had more energy than I've ever had in my life! All done without any exercise, just imagine if I had followed an exercise regimen too! I gave the book to my sister because she wanted to slim down to take a trip to Kazumel. She lost 60 pounds in 2 and a half months. This is an older book, but you can still find copies in the book store and I even found a backup copy at Goodwill. Good luck!

find calorie/fitness calculator on the net, enter your stats and it will tell you how many calories a day you need to maintain your weight. take 300-400calories off that number and that's how much you need to lose weight.
eat 5-6 small meals a day instead of 3 big ones.
5-8 servings of fruit and vegetables a day.
8 glasses of water a day.
4-6 times a week cardio work out for 30-50min plus light weight training.
no junk food, no sodas, no white flour (white bread, pasta, cookies, cakes etc)

Losing weight is a simple equation: if you burn more calories than you eat, the weight will come off. Start off by estimating how many calories you burn each day using the calorie calculator http://straighthealth.com/pages/tools/caloriecalclb.html This will give you an idea of how many calories to eat. Healthy weight loss is 1-2 pounds per week. To lose 1 pound per week you need to create a calorie deficit (burn more than you eat) of 500 calories per day. To lose 2 pounds a week, you have to double the deficit to 1000 calories per day. You can achieve this by eating less, exercising more or a combination of both.
