I always like this one from after the crucifixion, Matthew 27:51-53
51 Then, behold, the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom; and the earth quaked, and the rocks were split, 52 and the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep were raised; 53 and coming out of the graves after His resurrection, they went into the holy city and appeared to many."
It always makes me feel proud to be a soldier of the Lord. Even after he died he gave life. He let every one see the good that could come. Even the saints got to live life again as we, His servants, all will be able to after the Rapture.

In the Bible, I like Nehemiah 8:10 - "Do not be sad, for your rejoicing in the Lord is the source of your strength!"

But the main scripture I believe in is the Bhagavad Gita. It is hard to pinpoint just one or 2 verses from there to call my favorite.

But here is one I really love and has special meaning to me personally:

9:26-27
Whatever I am offered in devotion with a pure heart - a leaf, a flower, fruit, or water - I partake of that love offering. Whatever you do, make it an offering to Me - the food you eat, the sacrifices you make, the help you give, even your suffering.

EDIT:
Oh, I forgot to answer the why part.
The Bible verse I love because I have suffered from depression, and it reminds me of the source of joy. The Gita verses are special to me because it is saying that God accepts my loving devotion to Him, and also reminds me to do everything as an offering to God. All my actions should be for Him. Even suffering, He will take as an offering. This means to me that you give your worries to God and let Him take care of everything.

This is a real interesting point you bring up here! In the very popular Christian prayer which called "I believe in God", which most Christians know even by heart, it says that Jesus died and went to "hell" and here you bring up the truth of where or what "hell" really is... the grave, the common grave, or the memorial tomb, which even though our old bodies rot back to the dust from where it was taken, the Living God, who never once died for any length of time, still has our DNA, etc. in his memory until the promised resurrection of both the righteous and the unrighteous... Thank you!!!
Oh! I forgot that in your question, you asked for our favourite scripture... Let's see!
Even though Matthew 5:37 and James 5:12 are witnesses to the fact that I love them all because of 2 Timothy 3:16 and Hebrews 6:18 and Titus 1:2, I particularly love Galatians 5:21, 22 and 1 Corinthians 13: 4-7; wouldn't have survived this system unless I had learnt to understand the true meaning of Matthew 22:40, of Colossians 3:23 and of the shortest but more powerful one of all: "Pray incessantly" at 1 Thessalonians 5:17 which allows us to put up with anything this old ruler 2 Corinthians 4:4 throws at us while hanging on to the peace of the true God which excels all other thoughts as we are being persecuted even from (sometimes!), our loved ones.

I'm not exactly sure of the year, but in 1980 I was privileged to hear Dr. J. Cydlowe Baxter preach in a US Army Chapel while stationed in Heidelberg, Germany. Dr. Baxter made a statement that I have carried with me all these years, "I want and need the whole Bible".

I mention this as I am sure you and many will agree with the sentiment. To choose a specific passage that stands out is not that easy considering the source. (look up :) also so many passages to choose) However I recently came upon this one approx 3 years ago and It still is thrilling every time I read it. Titus 2 : 11-14 (The Message)

"Gods readiness to give and forgive is now public. Salvation's available for everyone! We're being shown how to turn our backs on a godless, indulgent life, and how to take on a God-filled, God -honoring life. This new life is starting right now, and is whetting our appetites for the glorious day when our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ, appears. He offered himself as a sacrifice to free us from a dark, rebellious life into this good, pure life, making us a people he can be proud of, energetic to goodness."

I originally discovered this passage in the NKJV , however as I began to study and meditate on it, I just enjoy this passage in The Message.

To all those searching this is a passage that can really lift you and cause you to keep on keepin' on.
Gods Love to you all in Christ

"Man is a marvel
due honor and reverence
he takes on the attributes of gods
as if he were one of their number
He is familiar with the gods
because he knows he springs
from the same source"

From "Man is a Marvel" The Hermetica: Lost Wisdom of the Pharoahs. I am also fond of passages in the Song of Osiris. Because I agree with the symbolism and meaning in both.

Isaiah 61:1

This is the passage that Jesus recited in the temple when he proclaimed that He was the Messiah.
Although Jesus was the only Son of God, this verse could apply to any of us as we are all called by God to do His work and comfort the oppressed.

John 16:22:
22So with you: Now is your time of grief, but I will see you again and you will rejoice, and no one will take away your joy.

Because Jesus promises to come again
and

"IN this world you will have troubles but take heart! I have overcome the world!"
i LOVE that verse because it's saying that even if we have any doubts or troubles in this world, Jesus already overcame the world so we can bring our problems to Him and don't worry about it!
