The fact that there is strife within and among the churches MAY be one of the signs of the end times. Some believe that the Church Age ended years ago, so no believer should be attending a church, since the church would be under Satan's power, including the "pastor" of the church.

The folks at Family Radio believe the Church Age has ended and that the Final Judgment and Second Coming of Christ will be in the fall of 2011.

The folks at Family Radio believe the Final Judgment and Second Coming of Christ will be in the fall of 2011.

For example see the book “Time Has an End” on line at:
http://www.timehasanend.org/public/en_time_has_an_end_cont.html

This group, whose primary teacher is one Harold Camping, also believes the Church Age has ended in 1988 and believers are to come out of the churches as they are now under the control of malevolent forces now that the Tribulation has begun. According to this group, this is why there is so much strife between and within church groups. Mr. Camping’s interpretations of the bible are highly allegorical, so let the reader beware.

See the book Time Has an End, Ch. 10:
http://www.timehasanend.org/public/en_time_has_an_end_ch10.html

That said, the online audio lectures at Family Radio, are illuminating and worth a listen:
See: http://worldwide.familyradio.org/zusa/english/connect/audio_archive/echoes/frame/download/download.html

Finally, for the offline version of the Family Radio nightly call in show, where folks ask questions about the bible to Mr. Camping, see:
http://worldwide.familyradio.org/zusa/english/connect/audio_archive/forum/frame/

I am not endorsing Family Radio’s doctrines, but one is able to learn quite a bit by listening to these materials. Just be careful you don’t swallow everything you hear in this call in show.

Most of what you will read about the end times are pre-millennial views: the view that Christ's return will usher in a future millennium of Messianic rule mentioned in the book of Revelation before the final judgment. The believers of this doctrine also hold to the notion of a Rapture of the righteous beforehand.

Others hold that there will be only one second coming of Christ, at the time of the Final Judgment.

Then there are mixtures involving the views of the seven year tribulation and whether it is happening now, occurs later, etc.

These doctrines all fall under the general heading known as the study of end times, or eschatology.

For explanations of the various eschatological beliefs see: http://www.religioustolerance.org/millenni.htm

I am a Amillennialist. I believe we are currently living in the Millennium and in the Tribulation period. Events described in Matthew 24, Mark 13, and Luke 21 and in most of the book of Revelation have already happened. To me the Antichrist is figurative and not a real person. I believe that the Kingdom of God is today present in the world through the presence of the heavenly reign of Christ, the Bible, the Holy Spirit and Christianity. Both good and evil continues in the world until the current Church Age ends suddenly when Christ returns to the sky above the earth. Then the Rapture immediately occurs. The Redeemed are transported to heaven where they will adopt spiritual bodies. The rest of humanity will be condemned at this time to eternal punishment. The world will be abandoned. History is no more.

Catholics really do not spend a lot of time of fire and brimstone, I used to hear much more about it when I was a Protestant.

We mostly try to work with the Sacraments to keep within the Grace of God, we can control the state of our own Soul, we cannot control the end of time, if it comes while we are on earth, we hope we are ready. Even if it does not come during out lifetime, we are all going to die sometime, that will be our end of time and most likely what we are going to see.

So use the Sacraments that God gave us, and enjoy life!

Peace!

Assuming the book of Revelations is an accurate record of God's will regarding the end of days (in itself a pretty big assumption), it's pretty clear there will be no warning that the end is coming. When you start seeing signs, it means the end HAS ARRIVED. And when it happens, there won't be a bunch of people asking each other if the end is here - it'll be pretty clear to anyone around at the time.

Or, perhaps the "end of days" is, like most religious tales, more of an allegory than a prediction, about the more personal "end of days" (i.e. death).

well... first comes Ezekiel's War which will lead up to the four horsemen; read Ezekiel 38 & 39. It'll be a World War with all countries taking different sides... kinda like WWI. And for a world government, the world has to be in pretty bad shape. Get Jerusalem Countdown, it'll explain everything

The Bible tells us that the time is not and could not be disclosed. Even Jesus told us that only the Father knows the time. He forwarned us though of the signs like the war, the flood, the ecclipses, etc. The main reason why it is written is not primarily to scare us but to tell us that this world is just temporary. THis will come to pass, and it is useless for us to prepare for our earthly desire and life and totally forsake our spiritual side, which is eternal.
Rather than being preoccupied of when the time will come, the best option for us is to prepare now---Spiritually that is.

I'm sorry what signs are those? Oh, you're probably talking about Revelations, eh? Well, sorry to say, the book is prophetic--it's a coded history of the early church. Significant evidence suggests that the early church routinely used metaphorical stories to pass messages while avoiding official censure (which, then, meant death and dispersion of the church).

Oh, and don't forget that Jesus himself said that none shall know the time.

Be aware that there will be signs of the end of days, but do not seek after them. Read the writings of John (in the book of Revelations, he behaves as if he were a prophet), and other prophets such as Isaiah. The Lord knows the exact hour of His arrival - we do not, and we have no authority to second-guess the will of God.
