The information on the ticket is under my mom's name, who is in a different city. All other information (address, car) is correct (=my information).

I already mentioned that my mom is in another city. I do not have her license with me. It was the cops mistake that her information is all over my ticket.

The kind of help I wanted was what to do with the ticket. I already called the number given to me, and am now waiting to see what the cop wants to do with it - either drop it or fix the information. I was told that there is no way I could go to court to contest the ticket when it is "not mine." Most of you gave me very redundant information that the cop obviously told me when he handed me the slip + pamphlet. And also, my mom is informed of everything; as long as I take care of everything, it is just funny to her. I really did enjoy how everyone assumed that I am a lying, irresponsible brat.

If it goes unpaid, they will put your mom in jail.

It is probably close to impossible to get a speeding ticket unless you used your moms drivers license to drive. If so, they will issue a warrant for her arrest if she does not pay the ticket or appear in court. Once she appears and proves the ticket is not hers they will look for the perpetrator, which will be you, and you will face the fines and penalties for the ticket and other charges such as identity theft, false identification to a police officer and well.............

Advice: Pay the ticket, don't do it again, and if there is anything you learn from this is that when you are dishonest it is not just the ticket and issues that you lose. Think about the trust of your mom and the inconvenience to her. Life is hard enough as it is without having to deal with dishonesty of your kids. Is that something you really want?

Let me guess... the ticket is in your mom's name because she is the owner of record, right?

Not paying it can result in the suspension of your mother's driver's licence, loss of her automobile insurance - or tremendous rate hikes - and her arrest should she ever be pulled over after it is suspended.

Yes. Really.

And no, they don't have to notify her that it was suspended.

You knew what the law was.
You violated the law.
You pay the consequences.

If you have not had a driver's ed course in the past two years, you may go to the court, (let them know they have the wrong name so mom's insurance doesn't go up due to "points" on her licence) and make arrangements to take a local driver's ed course.

After completion of the course - take them proof - and the ticket may be dismissed. (Usually is.)

Many video rental stores have personal driver's ed courses you can take and then take a paper test to get certified as having taken the course in order to dismiss the ticket.

Don't hurt your mom, hon. Take care of it today.

Peace.

The owner of the car is responsible in paying the ticket however if you were driving why not drop off a check in the mail for your speeding ticket? Also you mentioned the ticket is under your mother's name, why is that? Did you lie and give false information? You need to clear that up.

Ok - so what we have here is typical - stupid cop. He writes a ticket in the wrong name. Please don't ignore it - it will cause you and your mom problems down the road. I'd guess I would have to court. When they call my mother's name, I get up and explain that I am not her but the dumb cop apparently can't read or write. Let the judge try to figure out how to fix it!! I'd pay it in cash, and for goodness sakes, get a receipt and frame it. Sounds like a nightmare in the making for years.

sounds a bit odd to me. How can the ticket not have your name and license number on it. I can see the car being registered to your mom, but the ticket should be in your name.

The only thing I can think of is that your state must have a law where the registered owner is liable for the vehicle and driver, but the ticket should have been in your name regardless.

My experience in law enforcement leads me to believe your not being completely honest.

Then your mother is responsible to pay the ticket fine. Otherwise the license could be suspended then the next time you get pulled over, you go to jail Baby!!!

If no one shows up, the notice will be sent to your home. A warrant could be issued, and sent to you by cross referencing the license plate information. You could end up having your driving privileges, and plates suspended.

You could get off on a technicality, but it sounds like you used your mom's drivers license and that is fraud also she can get into trouble if she knowingly gave you her license, so you'd both be in trouble. I'd say just pay the fine and hope it all goes away.

Sounds to me like you may have given the officer misleading informatin. The fact is, it is your ticket, you pay it or you deal with the consequences. How horrible would you feel if on a technicality they throw your MOTHER in jail instead of you.
