As I look through the questions on here, I see a large number of people who seem so angry with other religions, Christianity in particular - and I don't understand why they see it alright to make up allegations, slurs, and rude remarks against them. There are bad apples in every bunch - that's just a fact of life. Our country was founded on the premis of "Freedom of Religion" so people can choose for themselves what to believe - whether it be Muslim, Christian, Athiest, etc. Why is it necessary to bash what you don't understand, or what you don't believe, instead of learning more about it & voicing what you believe rather than condemning what you don't? Isn't Freedom of Religion part of what makes us individuals, and isn't individuality supposed to be a beautiful thing?

No - I'm not naive - I know that people will speak their minds....I'm not new on here either. I understand Freedom of Speech & I understand what happened in history. My question is: what makes people think it's okay - or justified?

Intolerance borne out of ignorance is the basic cause. I like you when you said:

So well said, let others emulate you.

Since the dawn of time, really. Religions have always bashed each other.

Sumerians were bashed.
Greeks were bashed.
Jews were bashed.
Christians were bashed.
Hindus were bashed.
Muslims were bashed.
Neopagans were bashed.

It's always been happening. And the ironic thing is that all those groups that have been bashed have also bashed other religions. It's a vicious cycle.

Now, the "Freedom of Religion" clause is there to prevent the government from endorsing a state religion (bang-up job on that one). It does not prevent someone from speaking ill of another religion. That is not freedom; that is fascism.

human beings bash scientists because what they trust is diverse. after I research the universe, i will tell that there is a few variety of actually smart layout in the back of it. at the same time as atheists may chortle at what I say, they have not presented one good element compared argument, in basic terms chortle and get in contact with me stupid. in any case, any between the religions may be splendid, and at the same time as I chosen to worship with the help of Christianity, it truly is plausible that Scientology, Hinduism, Islam or the different faith may be splendid and mine is incorrect, for this reason it isn't straightforward to guage and bash different religions as stupid. Its also incorrect because it isn't form and morally repugnant.

i never understand this (your question, not the idea). Yes, freedom of religion is wonderful. In a perfect world it isn't neccessary to bash what others believe. But Christianity specifically sticks its nose into every possible walk of life in America, and now it complains when it gets attacked.
Leave evolution alone, leave gays alone, leave stem cells alone, then maybe some animosity would go away. As far as bad apples, police yourself so no one else has to.

well people say rude things to each other to embrace a right of free speach, even if it makes them look like *****. and there is a lot of bashing of christains i would think because of oh well let's see here...hmm, teh crusades, the inquisition, a passionate hate for gays or non christains (the majority not everyone i understand) the inssecant need to convert...., oh the pedophilia in the catholic church....jeez where should I stop? I understand they are not the only religon to do bad things, but in the short time they've been around (compared to juddisim and muslim) they've done a whole lot more harm than compared to most

You are partly correct. American Christians formerly enjoyed a climate of tolerance and most people were too polite to even discuss differences of religious opinion. Unfortunately, Christians crossed the line when they sold their souls to the Republican party and began a systematic campaign to undermine the Constitutional separation of church and state. It's one thing to have opinions that are different than mine; it's quite another to force your opinions on the rest of us in the form of federal law. Christians are masters of illogical thought and often resort to linguistic distortions to pervert the intent of established law. Only Christians imagine a twelve-week fetus is the same as a living person and thus bomb women's health clinics or murder doctors who perform completely legal abortions. Only Christians attempt to manufacture a pseudo-scientific pseudo-controversy so they can pollute America's science curriculum with their Intelligent Design nonsense. Only Christians condemn millions of sick and injured people to a lifetime of suffering because Christians imagine a ball of less than a hundred stem cells is equivalent to a human life. Now we have a profoundly incompetent Christian President who has deliberately started an unjustifiable and illegal war in hopes of initiating the "end of days" scenario.

The good old days of politely tolerating other people's wrong-headed religious superstitions are over. Life is played for keeps and human civilization is far too precious to allow the least educated and least able among us to destroy everything humanity has achieved, all for the sake of appeasing Abraham's deeply perverted imaginary God.

Another part of the First Amendment is the "Freedom of Expression". We not only have the right to follow any religion we want, but also to voice our opinions about others.

But Christians don't follow the "freedom" part. They want to teach every child their creation theory. The want to post their religious commandements in the public courthouse. They want the President to give money to "faith-based" initiatives instead of equally to all organizations. They want Christmas & Easter to be about religion, not about celebration for the fun of it. They want to disturb our peace and come knocking on our door selling their religion and telling us we're going to hell because of the way we believe.

So when Christians worship privately, not publically, not from the Presidential podium, and not in our schools, then the bashing will most likely stop.

A little criticism is a good thing. Maybe if more people had bashed the Nazis or the Ku Klux Klan the world would be a better place today.

When someone is in serious wrong what else can be done. You can't pull a gun make them to do what is right. Look who else "BASHES" those who are in error but will not repent... Jim
Matthew 23:28-33
Even so ye also outwardly appear righteous unto men, but within ye are full of hypocrisy and iniquity.
Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! because e build the tombs of the prophets, and garnish the sepulchres of the righteous,
And say, If we had been in the days of our fathers, we would not have been partakers with them in the blood of the prophets.
Wherefore ye be witnesses unto yourselves, that ye are the children of them which killed the prophets.
Fill ye up then the measure of your fathers.
Ye serpents, ye generation of vipers, how can ye escape the damnation of hell?
