I think you should have been a little more specific and said the eternal life of our souls because I sure wouldn't want to have eternal life on this planet!
And the basic question is not what you've said it's: What can I do to live a life so as to achieve ultimate enlightenment or nirvana or happiness? What about all those people who are not like you, who have not chosen Christianity or the basic concept of God as their path?
Why should I depend on the forgiveness that's given by an entity that is not believed in by all? Why not learn to forgive ourselves instead?
Sorry - I'm not trying to say that you're point isn't valid it's just I think you need to learn to see the bigger picture and recognize that not all people are believers such as yourself and that everyone has their own way of obtaining forgiveness for these so-called sins. It's a personal thing not something that should be pushed on people.
If you don't agree with my answer that's fine by me, I know what works for me and that's what matters the most in the end. Don't be so closed minded.
I can't wait for the so-called end when 'God' returns - we'll really know for sure what the truth is!!! Think back to his teachings people! It's too bad I feel like I'm the only one who really understands this stuff!

it is not just repenting, Jesus gave the keys to the kingdom of heaven to peter, Thus, He said in acts 2:38 Repent and be babtized everyone of you, in the Name of Jesus Christ for the remission of your sins , and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost....Refer to John 3:1 to last verse. Then go to Acts:4:2.....Acts 2:38...., for you must be born again of the water and the spirit. John 3:5, You must have both to enter in to enternal life, how will you mortal body take on inmortality if you have not the spirit of God , which is the Holy Ghost

I think we should annoint ourselves with cheesecake every third Thursday while shooting rum runners and holding sparklers. As long as we keep it up, we'll inherit eternal life not to mention a few blisters.

I think you are misusing inherit.
To inherit something you must be in the will of a dead man. While I may agree that God is dead, I don't recall seeing a will.

He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have eternal life.
So then, believe on Jesus and you shall have eternal life.
Sounds easy doesn't it.
It is, if you don't get caught up in religion.
John 3:36 "He who believes in the Son has eternal life;
John 5:24 "Truly, truly, I say to you, he who hears My word, and believes Him who sent Me, has eternal life, and does not come into judgment, but has passed out of death into life.
John 6:40 "For this is the will of My Father, that everyone who beholds the Son and believes in Him, may have eternal life;
John 6:47 "Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes has eternal life.
John 10:27 "My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me;
John 10:28 and I give eternal life to them, and they shall never perish; and no one shall snatch them out of My hand.

I think you are almost there...
Repenting of sin and believing in the Sacrifice of Christ is necessary,
"God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in him shall not perish, but have everlasting life". - (Jn. 3:16)
"He that believes on me has everlasting life".- Jesus.. (Jn. 6:47)
"This is eternal life; that they may know Thee, the only true God and Jesus Christ whom Thou hast sent:. -- Jesus (Jn. 17:3)
"This is the record, that God has given to us eternal life, and this life in in His Son".... (I Jn. 5:11)
