I am not a drinker and seldom ever order anything alcoholic to drink. However, tonight I'm going out with a very nice gentleman and I know that I'm going to be asked what I'd like to drink - I need an answer that sounds classy, or at least like I do drink socially.
What is a nice drink - maybe somewhat sweet - that I could order in a nice restaurant as a cocktail? I really don't want to order wine as I'm sure I'm going to need something a little stronger to make me feel good and happy this evening.
Hey, I told you it was a silly question - but I do need an intelligent answer. He thinks I'm sophisticated and classy and I'd hate to let him down!
Thanks!

Good ideas all. If I'm going to drink, I drink a Pina Colada, but the one I had a couple of weeks ago at the Outback had no alcohol at all (it seemed) and I might as well have poured sugar in juice and drank that!
A Martini would be classy wouldn't it. maybe I'll go with that.
I appreciate your answers a bunch!

Amaretto Sour. Amaretto is an Almond Liqueur and the sweet and sour mix make for a VERY INTERESTING and sophisticated SIPPING ONLY drink. Most women I know drink it. Pina Colada's and other associated "Party" drinks will be too risky at this juncture - and it sounds like you will be going to a good sophisticated location - don't bring in the "party" drinks
Keep me posted, but I would venture to say that the fellow you are going out with will order a Scotch/Water on the rocks. Also a sipping drink that allows you to concentrate on your conversation - not your drink (or need for another).
Best of luck to you!

if you don't normally drink alcohol I wouldn't suggest a martini - which is Striaght alcohol. very potent.
Your best bet would be ordering a glass of wine , if you like sweet go for a reisling , or a pinot gris ( both which are white wines)
If the mood of the night is HARD spirits and still want sweet - an apple martini is a good option. if you're at a VERY cool bar that stocks 42 below Feijoa Vodka then ask for that with applejuice and you will think youve died and gone to heaven.
Best of luck!!

Pina Colada is my favourite drink in the world and I'm not a big drinker either. Its a nice coconut refreshing taste, and it doesn't taste gross like vodka and coke. I'd ask for one of those. But then if you're looking for classy, maybe a dry martini shaken not stirred! lol! Enjoy ur night!

You could always go with a glass of Asti Spurmonte - but it is costly and he may feel you are taking advantage of his generosity in asking you out to begin with.
Ask the waiter for a glass of a good " German Mosel white wine" - it is slightly sweet and he will certainly be quite impressed when you ask for a glass of it. Any decent restaurant will have it!
Three glasses of the stuff will make you feel like a million dollars!
Prost! & Good Luck!

That's OK. Don't put on airs. This relationship may work out and you don't want to have to admit that you are not a drinker. Just be yourself. If you want to be sophisticated ask the waiter for what is the houses specialty or what is a good suggestion. It will show that you are spontaneous and social. Good luck.

Ask for a cosmopolitan with grey goose.
Very expensive kind of vodka, very smooth and good.
Cosmos are sweet and classy and served in a martini glass.

I would stay away from a straight martini if you not a drinker, its all alcohol, try a rasberry cosmo, or a riesling wine ( a sweeter white) . I've been a bartender for 13 years these are best bets.

I like a lemondrop. It's essentially vodka & lemon juice, but it's served in a martini glass, with sugar around the edge. Slightly sweet...Usually not a large drink, so you can get thru it without being knocked off your tush...And quite elegant!

I personally think wine is the est way to go! Its classy and it will give you a decent buzz, but cheap wine will give you a BAD hang over... SO becareful
But if you want someitnhg strong! Go for the Long Island Ice Tea.

I personally am in favor of wine as it is relaxing and elegant to drink. If you do not prefer that, I suggest you order a "White Russian" or even a "Strawberry Martini."
