who says your supposed to need windows?

Windows is not your only option. Mac OS is much nicer; there's also Linux, BSD, etc for PCs.
Microsoft office is not your only option. There's the free Open Office ( http://www.openoffice.org/ ) and quite a few other word processors / spreadsheets / etc.
With computers, just like with religion, most people have no idea what their options are.
